SWIM SAN DIEGO

Safe Sport Programming & Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP)

USA Swimming is committed to safeguarding all of its members with the welfare of its athlete members as top priority. Safe Sport is USA Swimming’s comprehensive abuse prevention program and provides tools for swim clubs to educate their members and intervene in risky situations

We, Swim San Diego, fully endorse and support USA Swimming’s Safe Sport and Safety programs, as well as MAAPP, by helping to provide these resources for our club members.

Swim San Diego believes that every child has the right to a safe swimming environment that is free from abuse.  SSD swimmers should be free to work hard, pursue their goals, make friends, benefit from good coaching, contribute as a great teammate and celebrate achievements without worrying about being in an abusive situation.

Pool Deck Policy

For the UCSD Canyonview and Triton (outdoor) Pools - Swim San Diego has implemented a Closed Deck Policy for all practices.  We understand that many parents will want to stay and wait for their children to complete their practice due to driving distances or time, but ask that you do so in the lobby or in the stands (Triton Pool only, no stands are available at Canyonview Pool).

Parents being allowed on deck during practice is a liability and safety issue.  Swim San Diego assumes liability for the pool area during our practices, and there are strict insurance requirements for non USA Swimming members.  The only individuals that should be on deck during a practice are the USA Swimming certified coach and those individuals the coaches deems necessary to assist in conducting the practice, e.g. senior swimmers helping with age group swimmers; volunteers acting as timers.

Moreover, the policy is in place to prevent distractions for the coaches as well as the athletes.

If you have questions about your child’s training or team policies, contact the Head Coach.  We wish for our organization to be united and strong, free of the related problems that may arise from the lack of communication.  At any time questions or concerns need to be addressed, we extend the offer to contact our Head Coach, Greg Spire for swimming related topics.
