Trailblazers Need Your Help!

Claire Reyes

Dear Ski Friends and Families,

We are excited to share with you the latest accomplishment of the Highlands Trailblazers Biathlon community.

The Trailblazers’ new ten lane .22 range, Phase One of our four phase project to build a Nordic race and training facility, opened for training in January at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon.  This marks a significant milestone in creating opportunities for athletes and is the latest evolution of a program first fostered by Larry Sinclair and Jim Miller so many years ago. Over the years, many of our athletes, despite limited training facilities, have risen to International level competitions, National Team tours and National Team programs. We are excited to see what the future holds with the new range in place!

As members of the ski and biathlon community, we want to thank you for your ongoing support and let you know that the program and facility would not be where it is today without your involvement.  Will you help us reach the next phase of range construction?  Any donation amount is much appreciated and legacy donors at the Bronze, Silver, Gold and On Target contribution levels will be recognized.  Please forward this information to your family, friends and alumni Biathletes – we need your help! Any donation amount is much appreciated!

The enclosed brochure features photos from the new range and outlines our fundraising goals.  Phase One is complete. The $40,000 construction cost was funded by the families of current biathletes, the Highlands Trailblazers Club and generous corporate “in kind” donations.  Now we need to raise $50,000 for Phase Two of this four phase race and training facility.  Phase Two includes mats, targets, storage, additional signage, trees and landscaping.

Click the following link to donate  https://www.ontariosportnetwork.ca/nstf-projects/195-highlands-trailblazers and a tax receipt will be immediately generated. Alternatively, please contact us directly to donate by cheque or etransfer.  If you would prefer to make an in-kind donation, we are in need of two shipping containers, trees for planting, mats, concrete retaining wall blocks, filter cloth and fencing materials.

Biathletes have been training on the range since January and dryland training starts in May.  We encourage you to pop by to watch the training and see what our talented athletes can do at this wonderful new facility. They always enjoy spectators!

With thanks,

Iona Tough and Martha Whitton
