Sierra Nevada Swimming hosted the Open Water Championships for 2021 on Saturday, September 25th. The event was held in Lake Natoma at Nimbus Flat. The athletes were able to compete in the 1k, 3k or 5k swim. Avery Pellicano represented AquaSol Swim Team and raced in the open water 5k. This is 3.2 miles! Avery won the event in convincing fashion and posted a very impressive time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 50 seconds! Congratulations Avery on a great swim!

Sierra Nevada Swimming hosted the Bill Rose Classic July 15th - 18th. The summer championships this year was hosted at two sites for the prelminary sessions and at one site for the finals session. The meet was competed short course yards. There were over 400 swimmers competing in the meet. Scoring wise the meet was divided into three division: large, medium and small team divisions. Patrick Sammon has been selected to the 2021 National Junior Team International Competition team. Patrick is slated to swim in the 200 free and the 4 x 100 freestyle relay. USA Swimming named a squad of 22 girls and 21 boys to the National Junior Team. The team will represent the U.S. at the third and fourth legs of the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup this fall. Over the past weekend a group of Senior swimmers attended and raced in the Summer Sanders Invitational. Historically this has been a long course meters meet but this year was raced in the short course yards format. The meet was trials and finals and raced over three days with seventeen (17) teams competing. On day two of the first wave of the USA Swimming's Olympic Trials Patrick Sammon qualified for the finals of the 200 meter freetsyle. Going into the finals Patrick was seated in fourth place. Patrick took the race out and dropped nearly half a second to post a best time of 1:49.30 and finished in 2nd place overall! The time of 1:49.30 places Patrick 29th on the all time 100 list for the 17 & 18 year old men for USA Swimming! Great work Patrick!

Patrick Sammon is currently at Wave I of the USA Swimmings 2021 Olympic Trials. On Friday evening, 6/4/21, Patrick competed in the men's 100 meter freestyle final. Racing from lane 3 Patrick touched in with a new personal best going a :49.94 breaking the :50 second barrier and taking 1st place in the event. The time of :49.94 places Patrick 35th on USA Swimming's All time 100 swims for the 17 & 18 men. Congratulations Patrick! Amazing race!

Over the weekend, Patrick Sammon competed at the TYR 18 & UN Spring Cup in Irvine, Ca. This was a long course, trials and finals meet giving athletes one chance to qualify for USA Swimming's Olympic Trials. Patrick competed in three events over the weekend and made his Olympic Trials cut in each of the three events! AquaSol swimmers were very excited to be back in the pool and racing! The swimmers dove in the water over the weekend of March 20 & 21 to compete in a dual meet with Elk Grove Aquatic Club in Elk Grove. The meet included swimmers of all age groups and was a timed final meet swam in short course yards. Patrick will begin his career as a Sun Devil in the fall of 2021, joining a very competitive class of incoming swimmers.
