Senior swimmers break six team records competing at Sr. Western Zone Champs!

The Senior group from the Aquasol Swim Team was represented by eight (8) swimmers at the Senior Western Zone Championships in Clovis, California, July 31st – August 3rd, 2014.  There were over 1,200 swimmers representing eight different states at the swim meet.  The meet hosts used two different facilities with 50 meter pools at both locations.  This helped keep the time line in check and still offered great opportunities to swim fast.

The Senior group took advantage of the facilities and the competition and had a great meeting posting a large number of best times.  The 400 Freestyle Relay team composed of Kyle Covington, Sammie Woo, Natalie Bresnahan and Jacqueline Nisson entered the meet with a time of 4:17.66 and seeded 56th.  After the race the team dropped nearly 8 seconds posting a time of 4:09.67 and moving up to 32nd place.  The 400 Medley Relay team composed of Kyle Covington, Kaela Marcus, Jacqueline Nisson and Sammie Woo entered the meet with a time of 4:50.20 and seeded 59th.  Following the swim the team dropped 12 seconds posting a time of 4:38.18 and finished in 25th place.

Over the course of the weekend the swimmers broke six (6) team records.  For the 15 – 16 girls, Kayla Rios broke the 200 m butterfly posting a 2:35.56.  For the 15 – 16 boys, Gary Woo broke the 200 m backstroke dropping over 11 seconds to post a 2:14.87.  For the 17 – 18 girls, Kaela Marcus broke the 200 breaststroke record dropping 4+ seconds while posting a 2:40.33.  She also broke the 200 m backstroke record posting a 2:35.62 and she lowered her own 400 m I.M. record (5:18.32) taking 7 seconds off her previous mark.  Also in the 17 – 18 age group, Sammie Woo lowered the team record by breaking the minute in the 100 m freestyle posting a :59.93.

In the breaststroke events, Kaela Marcus stepped up and qualified for finals in both the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke.  In the 200 m breaststroke Kaela dropped nearly five seconds to make the championship final.  In the finals Kaela finished 8th overall.  In the 100 m breaststroke Kaela made it back in the consolation finals (Top 16) and dropped a half second to finish in 11th place!

Traveling for the first time with the Senior group to an away meet, Natalie Bresnahan, Jacqueline Nisson and Devlen Whisler all stepped up and swam best times in each of their events.  Natalie was 3/3, Jacqueline was 4/4 and Devlen was 5/5.  Natalie dropped over :02 seconds in her 50 m freestyle (:28.05) to make the qualifying standard for the California/Nevada Sectional Championships!

Not only was the team a tremendous success in the pool but they also showed a tremendous amount of team spirit cheering on their teammates at every race and supporting each other over the course of the meet.
