This past weekend USA Swimming hosted the 2020 Toyota U.S.. Open Championships from Thursday, November 12th to Saturday, November 14th.  This year the meet was broken into eight locations throughout the U.S.. One of the locations on the west coast was in Irvine, CA. and was being hosted at the William Wollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

This is a qualifying meet with time standards that were based on the Summer Junior National qualifying times.  The meet format is long course meters.  This year the meet was set up as a timed final meet with the men and women swimming in separate sessions.

Patrick Sammon qualified to race in the 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle events.  While it was Patrick's first time racing long course meters in over 14 months he had three great swims breaking the men's 17 - 18 team records in all three events.  On Friday morning Patrick raced the 50 meter freestyle posting a time of :24.18 and breaking the team record by over a half second!  On Friday evening Patrick raced the 200 meter freestyle posting a time of 1:54.85.  He dropped over 4 seconds off his best time and broke the team record by two seconds.  On Saturday morning, he raced the 100 meter freestyle dropping three quarters of a second off his best time posting a :51.51!  With his :51.51 Patrick climbed from his 22nd place seeding into the top 8!  He also picked up a new summer Junior National cut in the 100 meter freestyle!

Congratulations Patrick on a great meet and competition!
