In April of 1995 a small group of swimmers hired coach Mike Hamm to start training them at the Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates, CA for the 1995 US Masters Swimming Short-Course Nationals.

Over the next decade they continued to swim together and in 2007 made it official: LAPS was founded as non-profit corporation, with the stated purpose to

... provide a swimming environment for members to improve their health and physical fitness, to train for and compete in various swimming events, and socialize amongst themselves.

In other words, we're a swim club!

In 2009, LAPS hired Coach Tyler Storie, who provided challenging and ever-changing mixture of workouts.

In 2020, LAPS hired Coach Sue Stohrer who managed practices through thick and thin during COVID-19 and has been coaching ever since with a variety of energizing workouts.

LAPS swimmers have continued competing, setting National and World masters swimming records, and sending swimmers to national championships every year.

In addition to pool swimming, our swimmers meet up for ocean swims and compete in the many open-water events throughout SoCal.

Two things that haven’t changed over the years are early morning swims and post-swim coffee.
