Northside Diving Academy Coaching Staff

Head Coach Mike Freese
Email: [email protected]

Coach Mike has been involved with the US diving world since 1997 when he started training in Ohio with Coach Jen White. That training led him to Western Kentucky University where he captained the Hilltoppers’ dive team to three NCAA Division I Sunbelt Conference Championships   He spent his summers and off-season performing in diving shows. After graduating with a double major in history and social studies, Coach Mike took his two NCAA Scholar Athlete awards and entered the world of full time performance. His passion for the sport led him all over the world to the apex of acrobatics with Cirque du Soleil. In 2013, he took a break from the performance world to join Coach KTM and the Northside ISD family coaching for the UIL programs and AAAD. Still feeling the itch to perform, he followed his dream to China where he helped to create the world's largest live stage water show. In 2017, disillusioned with performing, he sold all his possessions and moved to India. Living in various ashrams, trading work for room and board he studied the mind, breath, and focus through yoga. This led him to Nepal where he built, opened and continues to operate a yoga retreat center. In September 2019 he returned to the US and his job at Cirque du Soleil's “O” only to find the desire to perform had been replaced by a passion to unlock potential in aspiring athletes. His approach to coaching is energetic, immersive and shaped by his unique blend of acrobatics, yoga, and determination.
