AQTX Scorps Polo Weekly 1/6

James Smith

Happy New Year, everyone. We begin 2020 with our first practice of the season at Micki (thankfully) on Monday, a very busy competition calendar, and a new practice schedule for both our youth and masters athletes.

Winter Schedule

Beginning in January the practice schedule will be:

  • Youth/HS athletes: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 7-9 PM
  • Masters: Wednesday, 9-10 PM, Saturday, 10:00-11:30 AM. AQTX high school athletes are encouraged to come scrimmage with the Masters.

As always there will be exceptions to the schedule which we'll try to keep up to date as best as possible on the calendar. The schedule for high school athletes will likely change when the prep season begins in February/March.

Referee and Water Polo Newcomer Clinic

We have tentatively on the calendar a USA Water Polo-sponsored referee clinic on Sunday, January 26 at Micki. From noon until 2 PM will be classroom instruction for anyone, newcomers in particular, interested in refereeing. From 2 PM to 4 PM we will ask all high school-age or masters athletes from the Austin-metro area to scrimmage while the referees train. Newcomers to the (newly UIL-approved!) sport are also encouraged to attend to watch the scrimmage from the deck with a coach describing the action, and/or hop in and try it out for real. More details to come.

Roster Calls

Dare to Dream

It's been on the calendar for months and now we have more information about the second annual Dare to Dream Tournament. You should receive an invitation to register for it and other events via our Team Unify page. Registration for the event has been extended to January 13 so there's still time to sign up to play for Longhorn. Read more here. This event is aimed at our 12U athletes (age as of Aug 1 2019) and will include 12u coed, 12u girls, and 10u coed divisions. As the 10u division is played with four in the field and one goalie, we are hoping to round up five athletes to compete as the first ever 10u Longhorn squad with whom we are partnering.

Spin Lob

Our masters athletes will have the opportunity to play against the best in the country as the Spin Lob Classic will be taking place at UT February 1-2. This will also be a great chance for our younger athletes to watch some current and former Olympians compete in our own backyards! Though the chances of sending an AquaTex Masters team are slim there should be spots for our athletes on Totex or Austin Water Polo.

Gear

Our friends at RYTE Sports have updated our catalog with new shirts, latex caps, jammers, a towel, leggings, shorts, boardshorts, and a hoodie. Check it out in our store.

Playbook

Athletes will be tested for their knowledge of the base offense and defense. Here you go. #BallSide

We're excited to begin the new year. Thanks for your support as always
