SUNN (Swimming) Citizen Merit Scholarship

Scholarship Purpose

The SUNN Citizen Merit Scholarship was established in early 2023 to recognize outstanding student athletes who demonstrate SUNN’s core values of Integrity, Community, Responsibility, Passion and Work Ethic.  This scholarship is merit-based and does not consider the financial need of the applicants.

Award Details

The number of awardees and size of each award are based on the donations that year.  In general, we plan to award four scholarships to graduating seniors at $500 each.

The award ceremony will be held at the Annual Gala in May of each respective year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the SUNN Swimming Scholarship, athletes must meet the following criteria:

-  Must be a graduating senior in High School and planning to attend a 4 year college in the Fall.

-  Maintain a GPA of 3.5 out of a 4.0 scale (high school transcript required)

-  Maintain good standing at SUNN with no record of misconduct.

-  Athletes who are children of the SUNN Board of Directors, Volunteers, Officials etc are eligible to apply.   All applications are reviewed by an independent Review Committee.

Application Process

The application period is from late February to the end of March every year (the deadline has been extended for this year).

Applicants are required to submit a short essay to the following questions:

- Please put your name, date of birth, and swim group on a cover sheet not within the body of the essay, as the selection process will be anonymous.

-  How have you demonstrated the core values of SUNN Swimming within our swim club? (150 words)

-  What is your intended college major and what inspires you to choose this major? (50 words)

-  Please provide an activity list and or job experience outside of SUNN Swimming.

Please submit the above information including your name, date of birth, and swim group in a PDF and submit this to [email protected] by April 16th, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

Scholarship Review Committee

Two board of directors, a swim coach, and two parent volunteers will comprise the Scholarship Review Committee.  In the event the applicants are child(ren) of the Review Committee, the Review Committee member will recuse  himself/herself  from voting.

The two parent volunteers are selected every year in February/March.
