MCAT Try-outs
A try-out is used as an assessment tool to determine if a swimmer is ready for the swim team and, if so, which group on the team is most appropriate. Skill level is the biggest factor in determining group, although age is taken into consideration as well. We want to make sure that we place your child in the group that is most appropriate; we want your child to grow and flourish, not be overwhelmed.
At a minimum, your child must be able to swim 50 yards (2 laps) of freestyle, 25 yards (1 lap) of backstroke, and the beginning knowledge of one (or both) of the other two competitive strokes (butterfly and breaststroke). If your child is not yet able to do these skills, we suggest more swim lessons. When your child is ready, he/she is more than welcome to come back for another assessment.
