MCAT Junior Olympics Headlines 2013

Long Course 2013  Junior Olympic Headlines

Tommy Padilla and Toby Macabugao medaled at the Junior Olympic LC Meet held in Concord, Ca., July 12,13 and 14.   Tommy brought home a 7thplace medal in the 200 back with an incredible swim. Toby earned 3 pieces of Junior Olympic Hardware , placing 8thin the 100 BR, 6thin the 200 BR and 8thin the 200IM.

EJ Fulgencio swam at his very first Junior Olympic meet at age 10 and showed nerves of steel.  The most exciting race was EJ’s perfectly split 200 free (2:54.95) to earn a new JO cut in a bonus event dropping a whopping 26.97 seconds from his entered time. He bettered his time in the 50 fly going 39.15.  It was a pleasure to coach this young man at his first of many Championship meets to come.

Tommy Padilla (age 12), earned a PRT in prelims going 2:45.04, dropping 1.69 seconds  in the 200 back.  He again dropped 3.95 seconds going 2:42.78 .  He dropped time in the 50 Breast stroke and the 100 Breast stroke earning new LC JO cuts in both of those bonus events.  Tommy had a great weekend and did so not even rested or tappered.

Michael Michalski ( age 16) enjoyed himself at the meet and swam an impressive 200 IM (2:39.64) and negative split a 400 free for a personal best 4:53.47.  Most fun was watching him negative split each 100 in the 400 IM and swim an outstanding breast stroke leg to out touch many of the swimmers in his heat.  What a fun race to watch!

Emilio Rodriguez (age 14) swam a personal best in the 400 free by 4.28 seconds.  Again, this was an MCAT swimmer with a very well spilt race. The smile on his face after the swim made my day.

Toby Macabugao (age 16) came to JO’s to swim mostly off events in preparation for the North American All Star Challenge in August.  Toby was selected to represent Pacific Swimming at this International Age Group Meet in Federal Way Washington next month.  He dropped over 3 seconds in his 50 free going 26.66.  Toby had a personal best in the 100 free going 59.17 dropping .57 seconds.  He earned a new PRT in the 200 Breast going 2:37.85 in finals a 2.2 second drop for the day.  He also dropped 2 seconds in his 200 IM going 2:23.34 in Finals.

It truly was an exciting and enjoyable weekend.   Congrats to the Boys of MCAT.                                                                                       by Coach Dia
