FGC Championships Update

Terrell Woods

Good afternoon FGC Coaches!

On 1/19 the FGC Board of Directors made the difficult decision to modify BC Champs.  Due to the unfortunate circumstances related to COVID restrictions,  two of the three county BC Meet hosts (Broward and Dade) are no longer able to host the BC Champs Meet at their facility and not able to secure an alternative location.  In our best attempts to keep the focus on athletes first, the following information is how the FGC can get as many BC level swimmers in the water as possible:
  • Feb 20 and 21, 2021 will be referred to as BC Weekend, not BC Champs.
  • Palm Beach County was the only county able to secure a single location for teams to attend one meet on BC weekend.  PB Teams wanting to swim that weekend should enter NPB's meet.  No other meets in PB county will be sanctioned
  • Meets in all counties will be:
    • BC level (speed limited slower than BB times).
    • Follow the recommended meet event format provided by the FGC meet committee (event order and number of sessions can be modified)
    • NTs are allowed
  • Teams in Dade and Broward will have the ability to host small invitationals and intrasquad meets that follow the format listed above AND:
    • Follow the recommended meet event format provided by the FGC meet committee (event order and number of sessions can be modified)
    • The number of sessions and days can be adjusted
    • A meet template will be posted on the FGC website ASAP
  • If the NPB meet does not fill they will be allowed to accept teams from Broward or Dade.
Meet invites for the BB and Age Group Champs (JO's) will be posted on the FGC website soon.  Below is some basic information regarding each meet:
  • BB Champs
    • North and South hosts and location remain the same
    • Both meets are scheduled to be P/F format
    • Events have been modified to follow the events at Age Group Champs (JO's).  Events that have been eliminated for this season are 50's of stroke for 13+ and 200's of stroke for 11-12 age groups.  The 200 free and 200 IM will remain in the meets.
    • Time standards at the fast end have been adjusted to follow Age Group Champs (JO's).
  • Age Group Champs (JO's)
    • Host and location remains the same - CSSC
    • The meet is scheduled to be a P/F format
    • Time standards have been modified and posted on the FGC website.  The time standards will only be used for the March 2021 meet.  LC time standards are TBD.
    • Events that have been eliminated for March 2021 are 50's of stroke for 13+ and 200's of stroke for 11-12 age groups.  The 200 free and 200 IM will remain in the meets.
    • The top 10 finishers of the 10U age group will have the opportunity to swim in finals.  10U's will be P/F
    • Relays will only swim 200 free, 200 medley, and 200 mixed medley events.  All other relays have been eliminated for this season.
    • Relay only swimmers will not be allowed.  Swimmers must have a minimum of 1 IE to compete on relays.
    • The meet will be 3.5 days with some events competing on Thursday evening.
Chris Anderson, the Senior Coaches Chair will have specific details regarding Senior Champs very soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for the Technical Planning Committee, the Meet Committee, and all the additional volunteers who participated in meetings to help set up the SC season-ending meets for February and March.
