TSM turns in a big performance at Open Water National Championships

TSM's strength in the Open Water was on display again this weekend at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships. Jordan Wilimovsky placed 2nd overall in both the 10k and 5k races, the latter being an epic battle decided by 2 tenths of a second. Brendan Casey finished 14th and 10th overall in the two races, and was 2nd in the 18-under division of both.

Jordan secured a spot on the US Pan Pac team (Australia) and Brendan on the US Junior Pan Pac team (Hawaii); both swimmers will represent the United States competing in the pool and in the open water at their respective Pan Pacific Championships. Brendan has been named to the 2014-2015 national junior team. At Pan Pacs, the highest possible junior travel team representing the USA, he will compete in the 100back, 200back, 400free, 1500free, and the 10k.

Additional strong TSM showings at Open Water Nationals: Scott Simmer competed in both the 10k and 5k (finishing 41st and 34th respectively), and Jamie Dodd (19th) and Gillian Caverly (23rd ) finished top 25 in the women’s 5k national championship. Jamie’s finish was good for top 10 in the 18-under division.

NCAA champions and medalists dominated the top 8 places of both races. Included among the colleges represented by coaches and swimmers were Michigan, Harvard, North Carolina, Yale, Virginia, Air Force Academy, Florida, Tennessee, USC, Northwestern, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kenyon.
