COLOMBIAN GOVERNMENT AND PANAM SPORTS CONFIRM FIRST JUNIOR PAN AMERICAN GAMES IN CALI FOR SEPTEMBER 2021

More than 3,500 athletes from 41 countries will compete in the 27 sports featured in the first multisport event in history designed specifically for young athletes of the Americas that will be held between September 9 and 19, 2021 in the city of Cali, Colombia.
 
"With the postponement of the Dakar 2022 Youth Olympic Games, the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games will be the most important sports event in the world for young people in the coming years," said Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.


CALI, COLOMBIA (AUGUST 31, 2020) — One of the most-anticipated decisions for all of the National Olympic Committees, International Federations, Pan American Confederations and of course young athletes of the Americas has finally been confirmed by the Government of President Ivan Duque: the city of Cali, Colombia will organize the first Junior Pan American Games of Cali-Valle 2021.

The news was delivered by Colombia’s Minister of Sport Ernesto Lucerna Barrero to Panam Sports President Neven Ilic during the Virtual Meeting of the Organizing Committee of the Cali-Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games on Monday. Among the attendees were Colombian Olympic Committee President Baltazar Medina, former Valle del Cauca Governor Dillian Francisca Toro, representatives of the Valle del Cauca Government, the Mayor of Cali and the Executive Director of Cali 2021, Jose Luis Echeverry. 

The confirmation is a milestone for Panam Sports and the entire Pan American Family as a unique opportunity for the next generation of athletes and for the advancement of sports development throughout the entire American continent. Additionally, Cali 2021 marks the first continental event in history dedicated and designed for young athletes between the ages of 14 and 22.

Additionally, the official dates of the event were confirmed for September 9 to 19, 2021.

“With the postponement of the Dakar 2022 Youth Olympic Games, the Cali 2021 will be the most important and massive sporting event in the world for young people in the coming years. I am sure it will be a spectacular sports festival that will serve as a launching point for our next generation of athletes and that Cali and the Colombians, as always, will be fantastic hosts,” said Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.

“I want to sincerely thank the Colombian Government, President Duque, Minister Lucerna, Valle del Cauca Governor Clara Luz Roldan, Mayor of Cali Ivan Ospina and the Colombian Olympic Committee for trusting us as an organization, and for the commitment and passion they have shown to youth and sport throughout the continent,” Ilic added.

“The National Government affirms the resources and commitments that are required for the Junior Pan American Games in Cali. We know the importance of these Games post-pandemic to help reactivate the economy and for the youth of Colombia and all of the Americas. We are working very hard to make these Games as great as we have all dreamed them to be. We want Games of the highest quality, and prestige, but as always the focus of everything is the region, for Colombia and for the athletes who are going to visit us”, said Colombian Sports Minister Ernesto Lucerna Barrero. 

The first Junior Pan American Games of Cali 2021 will feature 3,500 athletes from the 41 member nations of Panam Sports competing in a total of 27 sports, including: Aquatics (Diving, Swimming and Artistic Swimming), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Bowling, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling (BMX, Mountain, Road and Track), Fencing, Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline), Handball, Judo, Karate, Modern Pentathlon, Roller Sports (Artistic, Speed and Skateboarding), Rowing, Sailing, Shooting Sport (Pistol and Rifle), Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball (Beach and Indoor), Weightlifting and Wrestling (Freestyle and Greco-Roman). 

In order to ensure the best young talent throughout the region participates in these historic Games, Panam Sports is offering qualification to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games to the gold medalists in every individual sport.

ONE-YEAR COUNTDOWN CELEBRATION: CALI REACHES NEW HEIGHTS

Although no massive celebrations or gatherings are allowed throughout the Americas due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Cali-Valle 2021 Organizing Committee is preparing a special surprise for Wednesday, September 9 to celebrate and mark the One-Year Countdown to the world’s most important sporting event for young athletes in the coming years. The special One-Year Countdown event will be live streamed throughout the Americas and the world on the Panam Sports Channel

CALI, COLOMBIA (31 de agosto de 2020) —  Una de las noticias más esperadas por los Comités Olímpicos Nacionales de las Américas, por las Federaciones Internacionales, Confederaciones Panamericanas, y por supuesto por los jóvenes deportistas finalmente vio la luz: La confirmación oficial del Gobierno del Presidente Iván Duque, de que la ciudad de Cali organizará los primeros Juegos Panamericanos Junior Cali-Valle 2021.

La noticia la informó el ministro del Deporte de Colombia Ernesto Lucena Barrero al Presidente de Panam Sports Neven Ilic en la Reunión virtual de Directorio del Comité Organizador de los Juegos Panamericanos Junior de Cali-Valle 2021 que se llevó a cabo este lunes y donde participaron entre otras autoridades, el Presidente del Comité Olímpico Colombiano, Baltazar Medina, la ex Gobernadora del Valle del Cauca Dillian Francisca Toro y representantes del Departamento del Valle del Cauca, de la Alcaldía de  Santiago de Cali y el Director de los Juegos Cali 2021, José Luis Echeverry.

Esta es una gran noticia para Panam Sports y para toda la familia Panamericana, ya que es una oportunidad única para la nueva generación de deportistas y para los países americanos de continuar con su desarrollo deportivo, más aún sabiendo que es el primer evento continental de la historia que está enfocado en jóvenes cuyas edades fluctúan entre los 14 y 22 años. 

Además, ya se acordó oficialmente la fecha de esta fiesta, que será del 9 al 19 de septiembre del 2021.

“Con la postergación de los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud Dakar 2022, Cali 2021 será el evento deportivo para jóvenes más importante del mundo en los próximos años. Estoy seguro de que será una fiesta deportiva espectacular, que servirá para impulsar a nuestra nueva generación de deportistas y que Cali y los colombianos, como siempre, serán unos fantásticos anfitriones”, señaló el Presidente de Panam Sports Neven Ilic.  

“Quiero agradecer sinceramente al Gobierno Colombiano, al Presidente Duque, al ministro Lucena, a la Gobernadora del Valle del Cauca Clara Luz Roldán, al Alcalde de Cali Jorge Iván Ospina y al Comité Olímpico Colombiano por confiar en nosotros como organización y por el compromiso y la pasión que tienen con los jóvenes y con el deporte del continente”, señaló Ilic. 

Por su parte, el Ministro del Deporte de Colombia, Ernesto Lucena Barrero, fue enfático en indicar que “el Gobierno Nacional ratifica los recursos y los compromisos que se habían adquirido para los Juegos Panamericanos Junior de Cali”. “Sabemos la importancia que tienen estos Juegos post pandemia, para la reactivación económica y para los jóvenes de Colombia y de toda América. Estamos trabajando muy duro para que estos Juegos sean lo que todos hemos soñado. Queremos unos juegos de altísima calidad, austeridad donde se pueda, pero que siempre el eje de todo sea la región, Colombia y todos los atletas que nos van a visitar”, puntualizó.    

Los primeros Juegos Panamericanos Junior de Cali 2021 contarán con la participación de 3.500 deportistas de los 41 países miembros de Panam Sports, y serán en total 27 los deportes que se disputen: acuáticos (clavados, natación y natación artística);  atletismo; bádminton; baloncesto 3x3; balonmano; bowling;  boxeo; canotaje; ciclismo (BMX, montaña, ruta, pista); esgrima; gimnasia (artística, rítmica y trampolín); judo; karate; levantamiento de pesas; lucha (libre y grecorromana); patinaje (artístico, velocidad y skateboarding); pentatlón moderno; remo; squash; taekwondo; tenis; tenis de mesa; tiro deportivo (pistola y rifle); tiro con arco; triatlón; vela y vóleibol (playa y sala). 

Cabe señalar que uno de los mayores atractivos de estos juegos y que va a asegurar la presencia de las grandes figuras de las Américas, es que, en todos los deportes individuales, los ganadores de medallas de oro clasificarán automáticamente para la gran fiesta del deporte continental: los Juegos Panamericanos Santiago 2023. 

CELEBRACIÓN A UN AÑO DE LOS JUEGOS:  CALI TOCARÁ EL CIELO 

Por la Pandemia del Coronavirus, no está permitido ningún tipo de celebración masiva en todo el continente americano. Sin embargo, el Comité Organizador de Cali-Valle 2021 tiene preparada una gran sorpresa para el miércoles 9 de septiembre, fecha en que faltará exactamente 1 año para la apertura de los I Juegos Panamericanos Junior Cali 2021. La Cuenta Regresiva a un Año del evento será transmitida en vivo y en directo para América y el Mundo a través del Panam Sports Channel.

Es por este motivo que el llamado es a todos los caleños, a los colombianos y a toda América a estar atentos a las redes sociales y a los medios de comunicación porque América comienza a vivir con todo el corazón, la pasión, la alegría, la música y el ritmo, los 1eros Juegos Panamericanos Junior Cali 2021… “Todo x Vos”.

 

Rescheduled 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming Slated for Omaha in June 2021
 
Olympic-qualifying event confirmed for the CHI Health Center Omaha, June 13-20, 2021
 
OMAHA, Neb.  – Following unprecedented events around the globe, including the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and many of the associated qualifying competitions, USA Swimming today announced that it has rescheduled its 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming to June 13-20, 2021 at the CHI Health Center Omaha, in Omaha, Nebraska.
 
The rescheduled Olympic Trials will be the sole qualifier for pool swimmers on the U.S. Olympic Team for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan in July 2021. The 2021 Olympic Trials event schedule will remain the same across the 15-session, eight-day event.
 
“We are incredibly thankful to the USOPC, NBC, the Omaha Sports Commission, the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority and every other partner involved in successfully moving an event of this magnitude to new dates that will best prepare our team to succeed in Tokyo in 2021,” USA Swimming Chief Operating Officer Mike Unger said. “Fans can expect to witness the same incredible level of competition and entertainment throughout this highly-anticipated event.”
 
Ticket purchasers will have two options for the 2021 Olympic Trials event:
·         reissuance of new tickets in the same seats for the same session(s)
·         ticket refunds within six months of the rescheduling announcement via the original point of purchase
 
Remaining tickets can be purchased through any Ticketmaster outlet nationwide or online at  ticketmaster.com/swimtrials20 , as well as at the CHI Health Center Omaha box office.
 
As of April 10, 2020, 1,213 athletes have qualified to compete at the Olympic Trials. At this time, we anticipate these successful trials cuts will be accepted for the 2021 event. Updated Trials qualifying standards will be released ahead of the official return to competition across the U.S.
