Trish has many years experience teaching young people from toddler to elite swimming. She spent years as a teacher before opening AquaSafe almost 20 years ago as a devlopmental program in Falmouth. Five years ago AquaSafe expanded to include the Firefish as a competitve age group team. Trish has two sons who were successful very swimmers coached by Ben Van Dyk.

 

 

Tim McGrath

Tim was a successful age group, high school and college swimmer at Bryant University. As an age group swimmer for the Cape Cod YMCA Makos, he qualified for the YMCA National championships. Tim set several team records as a member of the his high school team and for The Bryant University men's varsity team . He is a USA Level 3 coach. Tim has coached all levels with the Firefish since it's inception in 2016.

 

 

Ben Van Dyk

Ben has a long history in swimming going back to the late 1950's where he swam for the Hotchkiss School Varsity. He went on to earn NCAA All-America honors as a distance freestyler at American University. Ben continued his involvement in swimming while becoming an entrepreneur founding several companies. As a master's swimmer he set over 20 New England records, regularly placed in the top ten nationally in numerous events in freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, won a National Championship in the 1000 freestyle and was ranked in the top 10 in the world several years in a row in middle and long distance freestyle. He began coaching professionally in 2006 for the Cape Cod YMCA and coached numerous swimmers to prominence including Marie Chamberlain who set a National YMCA record in the 100 backstroke. Ben had 2 former swimmers in the 2016 Olympic trials. In 2016, Ben worked with AquaSafe to create the Firefish swim team where he continues to develop young swimmers to internatioal excellence. Ben is a Level 3 coach and a certified SSDC certified dry land coach.

 

Scott David Brown

Assistant Coach

Scott is a US Masters Swim level 2 coach. He is a triathlete with primary strength in cycling, then swimming and running. He competes at Olympic and half-ironman distances. Last year earned All-American in aqua-bike. A major recent accomplishment was 3rd overall at the Sea to Summit triathlon where contestant bike/run up Mt Washington. He also competes in cyclocross racing each fall and winter.

 

Michael Silvia

Michael is a former age group swimmer from Manchester CT and also swam for UMass Amherst. 

 

Terry Walsh

Dry Land Coach

Terry WalshTerry Walsh moved to Cape Cod from Boston in 2004. She has been working in the fitness industry for over 28 years at the Boston Athletic Club. Due to Covid 19, the Boston Athletic Club currently remains closed. Terry specializes in helping clients develop a healthy living lifestyle that includes cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility training and emotional wellbeing so that her clients meet and exceed all of their goals.

A competitive triathlete since 2002, she has raced all distances from sprint triathlons to Ironman triathlons, and loves helping clients reach their athletic goals. Terry's daughter, Hannah, swam for Coach Ben for many years and also swam in college at Lynn University. Terry is very aware of the needs of a competitive swimmer.

Her certifications include NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Behavior Change Modification Specialist, Certified Schwinn Indoor Cycling Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, and Alloy Certified Trainer.

Terry currently works at Chatham Works, Nove' Yoga and is on faculty at The Graceline Institute. She also has a fully equipped home gym for training her private clients. 

Terry enjoys her life on Cape with her husband Tom and keeping tabs on her three adult children who are off and running with their own busy lives.
