Fulshear Racing Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.
Our Goal:
To offer age specific training for all of our athletes which will challenge and develop each individual to the best of THEIR ability.
*Please note that as FRST grows, different sub-groups will be created so swimmers will continue to be challenged at each stage of their development.

Senior Competition:
The Senior Comp group is an advanced training group for High School aged swimmers, 10th – 12th (14 and up). The Senior Comp group has qualifications including attendance, time standards, training standards, age, and maturity. Training is focused on attaining Sectional and National level time standards and prepare athletes for High School and Collegiate level swimming.
Prerequisites:
Swimmers entering this group typically can do the following:
- Training Sets:
- 10 x 100 Free @ 1:15 (Boys)/1:20 (Girls)
- 5 x 200 IM @ 2:45/2:55
- 5 x 100 Kick 1:45
- Maintain 85% attendance.
- Demonstrate commitment to higher level training and racing.
- Varsity High School Swimmer
- One Sectional Time and 1 Bonus time OR High School Regional Scorer top 8.
- Goals:
- Potentially continue a swimming career at the collegiate level.
- Qualify and attend a National level competition and above.
- Coach's Discretion for Group Entry.
Senior Development:
The Senior Development group is an advanced training group for those swimmers that are preparing entry into the Senior Comp group. These swimmers display the success and training ability to compete and train at a Senior level. This group includes 8th – 10th grade swimmers. The Senior Dev. group has qualifications including attendance, time standards, training standards, age, and maturity. Training is focused on developing towards the Senior Comp group and goals of attaining Sectional and National level time standards and prepare athletes for High School and high level USA swimming events.
Prerequisites:
Swimmers entering this group typically can do the following:
- Training Sets:
- 10 x 100 Free @ 1:20 (Boys)/1:25 (Girls)
- 5 x 200 IM @ 2:45/2:55
- 5 x 100 Kick 1:50
- Maintain 75% attendance.
- Demonstrate commitment to higher level training and racing.
- Varsity or JV High School Swimmer
- GAGS Time and 1 Bonus time OR High School District Scorer top 8.
- Goals:
- Graduate into the Senior Development group
- Potentially continue a swimming career at the collegiate level.
- Qualify and attend national level competition and above.
- Coach's Discretion for Group Entry.
Pre-Senior II:
This group’s focus is on skill and aerobic development of the swimmer and competitive progression of higher standard swim meets. The Pre-Senior 2 Group is comprised of ages 13+ aged swimmers. Standards are set for this group and are similar to the expectations of the Senior groups; performance, attendance, times, training, age, and maturity. The training and competition focus of this group is High School competitions, progression to Gulf Champs and Sectional level championship meets.
Prerequisites:
Swimmers entering this group typically can do the following:
- Training Sets:
- 8 x 100 Free @ 1:20 (Boys)/1:25(Girls)
- 5 x 200 IM @ 3:15/3:20
- 8 x 50 Kick :55
- Maintain 75% attendance,
- Goals: This group’s focus is on understanding and striving for mastery of technical swimming at an elite level. The Pre-Senior 2 Group is comprised of athletes on track for the elite level swimming groups at FRST. The training and competition focus of this group is progression to Sectional/Junior National level championship meets. Technical proficiency is the primary emphasis, with training demands set to prepare the athlete to execute races at the highest technical levels.

Pre-Senior I:
The Pre-Senior I training group is swimmers 13+ years old. Swimmers in this group have 4 legal strokes, can perform all starts and turns with some proficiency. The focus of this group is improving stroke technique, offering challenging intervals, and teaching the swimmers how to develop solid training habits. This group participates in Gulf Open meets where swimmers try all events.
Prerequisites:
Swimmers entering this group typically can do the following:
- Training Sets:
- 8 x 100 Free @ 1:30 (Boys)/1:40(Girls)
- 5 x 200 IM @ 3:20/3:30
- 8 x 50 Kick 1:00
- Maintain 75% attendance,
- Goals: This group’s focus is on understanding and striving for mastery of technical swimming at an elite level. The Pre-Senior 1 Group is comprised of athletes looking to improve on their training skills and technical skills. The training and competition focus of this group is progression through Gulf Open meets and basic training improvements. Technical proficiency is the primary emphasis, with training demands set to prepare the athlete to execute races at the highest technical levels.

Goals:
- Complete training sets 6 X 100 of each stroke
- Advance to the Pre-Senior II or Senior groups
Junior II:
The Junior II group is an advanced level group for 11 to 14 year old swimmers which builds on the skills of swimming and kicking on intervals and learning more complex stroke drills and techniques. The training for this group involves knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes and preparation for the Pre-Senior training groups. This group practices for 75 minutes/ 5 days a week.
Prerequisites:
Swimmers entering this group typically can do the following:
- Training Sets:
- 8 x 100 Free @ 1:35 boys/1:40 girls
- 4 x 100 IM 1:45, Legally
- 6 x 50 Kick 1:05
- Have a solid ability to perform four legal strokes.
- Execute proficient starts, turns, and finishes
- Coach discretion is the primary factor for admittance to this group from Junior I or Racers.
- Maintain 65% attendance
Goals:
- Learn to enjoy racing and training
- Refine stroke technique and racing skills
- Compete legally in every distance and every stroke available over the duration of both the short and long course season.
- Qualify for and compete at TAGS
Junior I:
The Junior I training group is swimmers are 9-13 years old. Swimmers in this group have 4 legal strokes, can perform all starts and turns with some proficiency. The focus of this group is improving stroke technique, offering challenging intervals, and teaching the swimmers how to develop solid training habits. This group participates in Gulf Open meets where swimmers try all events. This group practices 60 minutes/4 days a week.
Prerequisites:
- Swimmer must be able to complete the goals of the Junior/Racer group to move into this group.
- Coach's discretion.
Goals:
- Complete training sets 6 X 100 of each stroke
- Compete and complete a 200 IM legally.
- Advance to the Junior II, Pre-Senior groups
Racer:
The Racer training group is for new swimmers in grades K through 6th; 11 and under. This is group focuses on training all strokes and primarily focuses on an introduction of aerobic and technical kicking and swimming skill work. They must be able to take instruction from a coach, work with the clock and work with a group. This group practices for 45 minutes/3 days a week.
Prerequisites:
- Knowledge of training methods and clock management
- Performed at Open Gulf meets
- Have a solid ability to perform four legal strokes
- Execute proficient starts, turns, and finishes
- Coach discretion is the primary factor for admittance to this group from Racers 1 or Pre-Comp.
- Maintain 65% attendance
Goals:
- Refine stroke technique and racing skills
- Compete legally in every distance and every stroke available over the duration of both the short and long course season.
- Qualify for and compete at TAGS
- Learn to enjoy racing, and training.
Pre-Comp/Tech Groups:
The Pre-Competitive swim program is geared towards those swimmers ages 6-12 who are not yet ready for the rigors of organized swim practices and need more specialized instruction on the necessary stroke techniques needed to participate on the competitive program. We work with the swimmers in a semi-private stroke instruction setting with a group maximum of 5:1 swimmer/coach ratio.
The goal is for the novice swimmer is to learn the basic fundamental swim strokes and techniques that will enable them to join the competitive groups in a seamless manner. Pre-Comp1 meets 2 x week for :30 minutes and you can choose your days, M/W or T/Th.
