PSC Learn to Swim FAQ’s

Q: What is the Learn to Swim or LTS program?

A: PSC offers a year round swim lesson program called Learn to Swim. There are 5 levels. Levels 1-4 are 2 days a week for 30 minutes. Level 5 is 2 days a week for 45 minutes.

Q: Is there an age requirement?

A: Children need to be 5 years old to begin our LTS program.

Q: How do I sign up for the LTS?

A: Contact Pirate Swim Club at [email protected] Somebody will get back to you about scheduling a time for your child to be tested for proper placement in lessons.

Q: How long does a session last?

A: We are a year round program. Our fall/spring classes run from September to May. Our summer classes run From June through August. The classes continue month to month until you don’t want to take classes anymore.

Q: How much are lessons and when is payment due?

A: Levels 1-4 are $40 a month. Level 5 is $45 a month. Payment is due by the 10th of every month. If full payment is not received by the 20th, a $5 late will fee will be applied to your account.  You are responsible for the full month’s dues no matter how many classes your child attended. Failure to pay your account in full each month will result in suspension from the program.

Q: What type of payment do you accept and how do I pay?

A: We accept cash, check, or you can set up bill pay (have payments sent to PO Box 811, Magna 84044), or we do offer ACH? There is a white lock box by the northeast doors by the benches. You can drop your payment in there. If it’s a check please write your child’s name in the memo. If it’s cash please put it in an envelope with your child’s name.

Q: How do I know how much I owe and who do I contact if I have questions?

A: You will receive a monthly invoice that generates from our website. If you have questions regarding your invoice please contact Sheila Homer at [email protected].

Q: Are there any other fees I need to pay?

A: There is a $15 insurance/registration fee that is due when you register. The fee is good for one year from the time you sign up.

Q: What should my child bring for their lesson?

A: Your child should wear appropriate swim attire, a one piece for girls, and swim shorts for boys. They also need a pair of goggles. We will give them a team cap when they start. Boys do not need to wear caps if they don’t want to, girls need to wear them every day.

Q: Do I need to stay at the pool during their lesson: If so, where do I sit?

A: Parents do not need to remain at the pool during lessons. If you do stay during lessons you are welcome to wait outside in your car or you can take advantge of the time to walk the track at the back of the high school or just enjoy the school grounds. We do not allow spectators in the pool except for once a month. Watch your emails for a time and day!

Q: Do you ever cancel class and how will I know if class is cancelled?

A: Occasionally we have to cancel class due to pool maintenance or swim meets. PSC sends out a weekly email with any schedule changes at the beginning of the week. If we miss class due to maintenance or a swim meet at our discretion we will schedule a make up class. If you are unable to attend the make up class we will not offer any credit or refund for the missed class. Sometimes we aren’t notified of maintenance until last minute, we send out an email as soon as we are made aware or any situations that require us to cancel lessons. If we miss class due to a holiday, we do not hold a make-up class.

Q; What if my child misses multiple classes in a row due to vacation or illness?

A: If your child is going to miss class let the teacher or the Learn to Swim Coordinator know and they will hold your spot. If you miss more than 3 classes in a row without notifying one of the staff your child will lose their spot in the program.

Q: How does my child move to a different level?

A: We do class evaluations every 3 months. You will get an email with the date of the evaluation. They will be evaluated during their regular class time, after class your child’s instructor will let you know if they will be moving to a different level or staying. They will tell you which skills they have passed and which skills need more work. If your child is moving to another level your class day and time will most likely change.

Q: When do class changes take place?

A: Any class changes take place the first day of the next month.

Q: If I decide to stop lessons, do I just stop coming?

A: If you decide you don’t want to continue lessons, you need to notify Sheila by the 15th of the month prior to when you want to stop. If you don’t notify them before the 15th you will be billed for the following month.

Q: If I leave the program can I come back?

A: We are always happy to have your child come back, as long as we have a spot available we will take them back. If we don’t have a spot they will placed on our waiting list. If you have an outstanding balance, your account has to be paid in full before returning.

Q: Who do I talk to if I have questions or concern about my child and their lesson?

A: If you have a concern, please talk to the instructor first. The classes are back to back so you may need to schedule a time to talk, or you can email them. If your concern is not addressed, please contact Sara. For questions regarding the lesson schedule contact Sara.
