Adventure Track: Competition Team

Explorer 1, Adventure 1 -- ages 7-13

Explorer 2, Adventure 2 -- ages 13-15+

National Development -- ages 15+

  • Explorer 1 (12 & Under), Explorer 2 (13+) -- Track 1 -- Developmental
    • ​Minimim 2-3 practices per week, usually 1.5-2 hours in length
    • Groups require tryout
    • Home Meets are highly encouraged
    • Focus is on building advanced stroke techniques, mastering competition skills and introduction into racing and training along with flexibility and endurance
  • Adventure 1, Adventure 2, National Development -- Track 2 -- High Performance
    • ​Typically 2-2.5 hours in length (including dryland)
    • Minimum 4 practices per week for Adventure groups, National Development 8 practices minimum (85% attendance)
    • Groups require tryout and/or interview to enter
    • Home Meets are required
    • Championship Meets are required
    • Travel Meets are optional
    • Focus is on preparing for higher-level competition (State Championships, Junior Olympics, Sectionals, Junior National Championships)
    • Nat-D also helps prepare for college swimming

Discovery Track: Pre-Competitive & High School Pre-Season groups

Curriculum is based on proper body balance, breathing, timing and technique.  Introduction to meet protocol and preparation for competition.   These run in sessions during the school year.  Those who wish to continue during the summer join our summer swim team or move on to year-round Competition Team.

  • Pre-Team 1A & 1B
    • Novice swimmers
    • Meets 2 times per week for 45 minutes
    • Minimum required skills: Freestyle & Backstroke (25 yards each); side breathing on Freestyle; listening skills and ability to focus in a group setting
    • Ages 6-12
  • Pre-Team 2
    • Beginner to Intermediate swimmers 
    • Meets 2 times per week for 45 minutes
    • Minimum required skills: Freestyle & Backstroke (25 yards each); basic Breaststroke & Butterfly (these will be explained at the tryout); diving from the side; listening skills and ability to focus in a group setting
    • Ages 8-15
  • ​High School Pre- and Post-Season Development group
    • High School Development Groups are training groups for swimmers who do not swim on teams outside of high school swimming.  These swimmers want to prepare for or continue training (but not competing) outside of the high school season.  Focus is on maintaining endurance and improving stroke skills.

SUSA Summer Team

A great entry-level, low-commitment way to see if swimming is for you!  Season typically runs 6-8 weeks during the June/July school break.  This is a separate team from all SUSA year-round options and you will be directed to another website to register.
