September 11, 2022:

Hello BASS families,

Thank you for an amazing first week! We saw so many new and returning faces, and we couldn’t be more excited for this season!

We have a few notes and reminders to share:

  1. With so many swimmers on the team this year, coaches are still making assessments to determine the best groups in which each swimmer should participate. For more information about this important process, check out this awesome article written by Olivier Poirier-Leroy: "Why is my swimmer not being moved up a group?" (swimswam.com). Coaches will be continuing to contact you this week if we feel any changes should be made. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
  2. As the swim equipment that you have ordered comes in, please make sure that your swimmers bring it to each practice – this is so important! If you have not yet ordered the required equipment and are uncertain about what to choose, don’t hesitate to reach out. Also, the team store will be up and running soon (where you can order suits and other team apparel). Another email will be sent out once that is up.
  3. Our first swim meet is coming up soon! Typically, the finalized meet information is sent to coaches on the Tuesday evening before the meet, after which time we will send you an email (look out for that!). If you would like to view the meet announcement ahead of time for planning purposes, it will always be posted in the team events section on our website: BATTLEFIELD AREA STAR SWIMMERS - Events (teamunify.com) - just click on the event you are interested in and scroll down to the bottom.

If you are attending this first meet and would like to help out (please do!), you can sign up using the following links:

Thanks again for a great first week!

August 30, 2022:

Hello BASS families,

Swim practice starts in one week! We are all very excited and have a little information to share to help navigate you through your first week at Woodberry.

General info:

  • Woodberry requires all BASS families to have a BASS pass visible on the dashboard/windshield of your vehicle. They were handed out at registration. If you do not have one, please be sure to pick one up from a board member during the first week of practice.
  • Woodberry asks all families and children to not use/touch any of the gym equipment found in the lobby.
  • Swimmers may use the bathrooms connected to the lobby just outside of the pool room but are reminded not to go or linger in any other part of the Barbee Center.
  • Parents may use the outdoor track.
  • For the first few weeks of practice, parents/families are asked to remain outside of the pool room during practice. Starting in October, parents will be invited to view practice from the upstairs bleachers (more info will be sent out about this later).
  • If your swimmers will need to be absent from practice for more than a few days, please reach out to Coach Patrick and Coach Tavia to let them know.
  • If one of your swimmers needs to leave practice early, please let a coach know.
  • If there is anything the coaches need to know about your swimmer/s (physical health related or behavioral), please reach out to Coach Patrick and Coach Tavia to let them know as soon as possible.
  • BASS caps and shirts are included in your registration fee. They will be handed out before the first swim meet.
  • If you have not yet signed the forms handed out at registration, please reach out to a board member the first day you come to practice.
  • Finally, please help ensure your swimmers eat and drink well before practice so that they are fueled, hydrated and able to work hard!

Swimmer expectations:

  • Arrive on deck 5-10 minutes early for warmup/stretches.
  • Bring towel, goggles (+ extras, in case they break), cap, water bottle (already filled) and swim equipment (see list below).
  • Swimmers will be allowed to use the restroom, if necessary, but will be asked to go AFTER sets are completed, not during.
  • After practice is completed and they have been dismissed by a coach, swimmers must promptly exit the pool deck to make room for the next practice groups.
  • If the swimmer is in the Senior Silver/Gold group, they must have a goal setting session with a coach within the first few weeks of practice. Forms will be handed out to them the first week of practice to be completed at home, before they have the goal session.

Swim equipment needed for each group:

You will need to provide swim equipment for your swimmers. Click on this link to find recommendations: Battlefield Area Star Swimmers - SwimOutlet.com

  • Developmental: fins and kickboard
  • Age group silver: fins, kickboard, pull buoy and paddles
  • Age group gold: fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles and snorkel
  • Senior silver/gold: fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel and parachute

Developmental swim group:

For the developmental group, our practice program is designed on a two-day structure. To get the most out of the pool time, remember to please bring your swimmer on Mondays and Wednesdays, OR Tuesdays and Thursdays. For the first week, feel free to come on Tuesday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday (since we have no practice on Monday).

Upcoming Events:

Our first meet of the season is September 17-18th! The deadline to sign up is the first day of swim practice. Please reach out to a coach if you have any questions.

We will be sending emails periodically to help ensure everyone stays educated and on track for the season! If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please let Coach Patrick or Coach Tavia know.

Your BASS coaches,

Patrick and Tavia
