General Information - Larkspur Lasers Swim Team

The Larkspur Lasers Swim Team has proudly represented the Larkspur Swim and Racquet Club (LSRC) since the 1970s, and our swim team tradition is as strong now as it has ever been! The Larkspur Lasers are a part of the Virginia Beach Swim League (VBSL) and compete in the Marlin Division against various other community pools and country clubs in the Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach area.

If this sounds intriguing to you, then jump in on the fun, as we welcome new Lasers to join us every year! Our team is open to swimmers of all abilities who are between the ages of four and eighteen, and our goals are multifaceted: To help kids hone their overall swimming and water safety skills while developing a love for competitive swimming, to boost their confidence in and out of the water while displaying good sportsmanship, to allow kids opportunities to socialize and make new friends in their community, and to give our swimmers awesome summer swim memories that will last a lifetime!

Worried that your child isn’t a strong enough swimmer to be competitive? Put your fears aside, because the Larkspur Lasers swim team is in the business of building confidence in the pool. Swim practices and swim meets focus on developing the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, and our talented coaches can quickly have even the most inexperienced swimmers participating in exciting team relays in no time! When swimmers first sign up to become Lasers, each swimmer must demonstrate his or her current level of proficiency in the water. In order to join the team, the basic requirement is that all swim team members must be able to swim 25 meters (1 length of the pool), unassisted.

If your swimmer is unable to swim 25 meters unassisted but does have some swimming ability and wants to be on a swim team, then he or she may enjoy our Swim School instead. Swim School is a great opportunity for swimmers ages 4-9 who demonstrate a basic knowledge of swimming but need a little extra help to make the 25 Meter unassisted requirement.  This program aims to bridge the gap between swimming lessons and participating as a swim team member. Swim School participants, who are considered Larkspur Lasers, work towards the end goal of participating in the final home swim meet of the season, and it is exciting for all when they reach this goal!

If your swimmer is a complete beginner or requires a bit more one on one attention than our team or swim school can provide then please check out the private swim lessons available through our home pool Larkspur Swim & Racquet Club.

When & How to Register for Swim Team & Swim School: Now!!!

While the Larkspur Swim & Racquet Club does not require swim team members to purchase a club membership to join the team, we love it when our swimmers are able to enjoy all that LSRC has to offer. In addition LSRC member swimmers receive a discount when registering for the team, and they are also given first priority in a first-come, first-served registration process. With all this in mind, we encourage every Larkspur Lasers swimmer and family to join our LSRC community by becoming members! For more information on becoming a member of our club, please visit the LSRC website here.

The registration process for the Larkspur Lasers Swim Team this year has changed from previous years, so please read the following information carefully!   The Larkspur Lasers have a new website and team administration tool called TeamUnify!!   It can be accessed directly through our new website www.larkspurlasers.com.

To register for the Larkspur Lasers Swim Team,  LSRC Members will be provided a private link to TeamUnify where they will have access to our member discounted pricing.    For Non LSRC Members & Guests, please use the Registration Tab on the new home page.

Please note that in past years registration has taken place at the LSRC Open House in May.   To better assist parents in making their summer plans we have moved up the registration dates to be before the Larkspur Open House.    So we STRONGLY URGE you to register using our new system as soon as you are eligible. Spots are limited and our program is so popular that our team fills up quickly by enthusiastic swimmers.

2022 Season Overview

The Larkspur Lasers 2022 VBSL Season begins on Wednesday, May 25th with our first practices at Larkspur Swim & Racquet Club! This year, the VBSL has expanded from three divisions to four divisions for the 2022 season. The Larkspur Lasers will remain in the Marlin division, and swimmers will have the opportunity to participate in four meets within the division as well a chance at qualifying to represent the Lasers at the Marlins Divisional Championship Meet. The season will wrap up with an End of Season Celebration and the All Star Meet.

The Larkspur Lasers regular season is from June 11th to July 23rd with the Marlin Division Championship Meet on July 30th and the All Stars Championship Meet on August 6th.     Each home meet will be on Saturday mornings at Larkspur with a Lasers Family Fun Night (think old fashioned pep rally) the evening before.   Away meets may take place on week nights or Saturday mornings depending on the club we are visiting.

The VBSL Championship Meets are invitation only.   The Lasers swimmers at these meets must compete in a minimum of 50% of regular season meets and will be invited by the coaches to compete in the the Marlin Divisonals based on their times in each event.   All Stars Championship Meet is the top swimmers from each of the VBSL divisional meets competing in one championship swim meet.

Please continue to check our new website, www.larkspurlasers.com, for practice details and the latest information on all things Lasers. In addition, please be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
