South Eastern Virginia Aquatics (SEVA) and Coast Guard Blue Dolphins (CGBD) swim teams, two premier teams serving the Virginia peninsula, are merging effective September 1.

The South Eastern Virginia Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the South Eastern Virginia Aquatics to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

SEVA offers 8 different practice groups to ensure that there is an appropriate group for your swimmer.

BRONZE GROUP - This group is composed of 6 to 10 year old novice swimmers in their first or second year of competitive swimming.  Emphasis is on developing the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes by means of drills and games that create an enjoyable yet challenging atmosphere for instruction.  Four practices per week are offered.

SILVER GROUP - This group is composed of 8 & younger and 9 - 12 year old swimmers who are experienced in a competitive program but still need primary stroke instruction.  Emphasis on learning how to train begins after stroke techniques have been developed.  Four practices per week are offered.

GOLD GROUP- The group has swimmers who are 9 to 12 year olds.  Swimmers in the Gold group will do practices that are tailored to their continued growth and skill development needs.  Our goal is for swimmers to achieve the majority of their “A” times while in this group.  This group will have the majority of our 9 and 10 year olds who are at least at the “BB” level up to “AAA”.  Four practices per week are offered.

AGE GROUP - This majority of this group is composed of swimmers aged 10 to 12 years old who would like and are ready to make the commitment towards training for success at the state level (Va. Age Group Champs).  While stroke technique and basic skills continue to be taught and developed, the swimmers make the transition towards taking the training education learned in previous groups and apply it to a more challenging aerobic type of training.  The goals for the swimmers in this group are to achieve at least the "A" level in all four competitive strokes.  Success in the IM (Individual Medley) events and a swimmers best strokes will take them to the "AA" and “AAA” level.  Five practices per week are offered.  A swimmer needs to attend 4 or 5 practices each week.  The basics of dry-land training is taught at this level. 

AGE GROUP ELITE - This group is composed of swimmers aged 10 to 13 who have the dedication to train for the top levels in Virginia and National age group swimming, which includes “AA”, “AAA”, “AAAA”, Zone Championship teams and National rankings.  Careful attention is still devoted to stroke technique, but training and preparing the swimmer for success at the Zone and Senior level is the primary goal.  Six practices per week are offered and the number required to attend depends on age and training experience.  Dry-land exercises begin at this level.

SENIOR PREP GROUP – The Senior Prep Group is made up of 13 to 18 year old swimmers who have many different goals.  Some swimmers are looking to improve competitiveness on their high school and summer league teams.  Other swimmers are looking to begin a training program which will help them advance to our Senior Groups in order to reach a competitive level that would allow them to swim in college.  Senior Prep Group swimmers will have a training program that will help the swimmer make great progress in developing stroke technique, help them become physically stronger and reach a higher fitness level.  Five or six practices per week are offered.

SENIOR "PREMIER" GROUP - This group is composed of swimmers aged 13 to 18 who are increasing their training volume and commitment.  A transition takes place at this level where swimmers are no longer trained as age groupers (training cycles occur on a monthly basis) but are now trained as Senior swimmers (one training cycle per season).  The swimmers in these groups are usually at the “AA” and “AAA” level.  Time is devoted to continually fine-tuning stroke technique at the same time that the swimmer is training and preparing for State and Sectional competition. Six to eight practices are offered per week.  Dry-land and strength training is expanded with sessions run at Tidewater Performance and by our coaching staff at the facilities used for practice. 

SENIOR "ELITE" GROUP - This group is composed of swimmers age 14 to 18 who have committed to qualify and compete successfully at Junior Nationals.  Making finals at the State Senior Championship meets and Sectional Competitions are used as stepping stones for reaching and/or moving up in placement at the Junior National level.  This group experiences an increase in training volume and morning practices become mandatory.  Eight in-water practices are offered each week with an additional three sessions of dry-land and strength training taking place at Tidewater Performance.
