Virginia Gators of Charlottesville

Since 2000, the Virginia Gators of Charlottesville has offered high-quality swim training from beginner to elite with a focus on balancing physical, social, and emotional development in assisting swimmers to reach their personal goals. Head Coach JJ Bean, in his 23rd year leading the Gators, is committed to providing a personal approach to helping every swimmer improve every day.

This Fall we will begin practices on September 6th at Fairview Pool until September 18th. We will then move to the Key West Swim Club outdoor, heated pool until September 30th and finally to our fall indoor home at Crow Pool on Rose Hill Drive in Charlottesville until the Fairview renovations are completed and our Bubble goes up again.

Coaching Staff

JJ Bean, Head Coach, Charlottesville

At the helm of the Gators is JJ Bean, an institution in Charlottesville, having coached for nearly 30 years. Many people have suggested that JJ is part-kid himself, which, tied with his knowledge of swimming and his master’s degree in sports psychology, provides him with an absolutely unique ability to connect with swimmers and motivate them to make the most of their abilities in and out of the pool. While he is a master stroke technician with an exhaustive list of accomplished swimmers with whom he has worked, he gets as much enjoyment helping a kid learn to cross the pool for the first time as he does preparing an advanced swimmer for the highest level of competition.

Fefe Nardone, Assistant Swim Coach

Fefe was a Gator swimmer who went on to 4 successful years swimming for Division I Old Dominion and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sports Management and Marketing. Fefe has coached the Jefferson Swim League's Lake Monticello Swim Team since 2013, most recently serving as Co-Head Coach. Fefe is in her second year wtih the Gators and is the primary coach for our Age Group 1 and 2 and Junior groups.

Chas Sigloh, Dryland Coach

Chas graduated from Denison University with a Bachelors Degree in Health, Exerise and Sport Studies in 2021 after swimming for 4 years for the Denison Big Red, a perennial contender for the Division III Championship.
