The Virginia Gators is a developmental swim team that promotes personal excellence through competitive swimming.

Progressing Group- 5:15-6:45 PM (9-14 years)

This practice group is intended for swimmers over the age of 9 that are able to swim all four strokes legally, able to complete legal turns, and are able to execute a legal start for both front and back strokes. The Progressing group offers excellent training options for both swimmers new to competition and those experienced young swimmers wishing to compete at the local and regional level. This group accommodates a wide range of swimming abilities and ambitions. Swimmers in this group are encouraged to attend at least 3 practices a week. 

Training standards for this group include the ability to swim 12-15 min sets on the following interval bases:

  • 7 X 50 @ 1:10 freestyle swim
  • 6 X 50 @ 1:30 kick, 2 out of 4 strokes
  • 6 X 25 @ :45 fly/back/breast
  • 3 X 100 @ 3:00 free swim

The Progressing group is a 3 Day per week program. The 3-day option is offered on MWF or TThF, although some flexibility in days is allowed with permission from the coach. Swimmers who desire to compete successfully on the regional or national level and who aspire to move into the Advancing Group in the next season should consider the Progressing Plus 6 Day Program.

Meets
Progressing swimmers are encouraged to attend several meets per year to assess progress and bond with teammates.

Equipment and Training Tools 
Fins
, snorkel, and pull buoy are required for practice so that swimmers can fine tune their technique. The Gators continually test and utilize the most advanced training tools and techniques to maximize swimmer improvement.
