VSC Concludes Long Course Season @ Newport

Coach Taylor VSC Head Coach

10 VSC swimmers made the beautiful journey through the forests and mountains, as well as along the breathtaking coastline, to the Newport Recreation Center pool this past weekend to compete in this year's NST Seahorse Invitational. Likewise, 10 teams were on hand, providing sufficient competition in nearly all events in this very fun, season-ending Short Course Yards meet.

With multiple event victories to show for their efforts, Noah Millikan and Riley Stevenson combined to claim our VSC Co-Swimmers of the Meet. Noah won both the 50Y Fly (:41.69) and the 50Y Back (:43.37) to lead all VSC swimmers in event place scoring - 88 points total for the meet. Noah also managed a strong 2nd place showing in the 50Y Breast (:48.55).

Riley won the 50Y Breast in another BB Time (:39.72) - our only BB Time at the meet. She also grabbed a runner-up finish in the 100Y IM with a new lifetime best time, as well as a VSC team best time, of 1:22.47.

Several other VSC swimmers also turned in some very fine performances. Securing our VSC Fast Swims of the Meet were Tiki Kahbra, Annie and Ingrid Morrison Garcia, Matan Mittelman. Tiki actually posted many new lifetime best times, but his 50Y Free (:33.67) was his best swim. Annie and Ingrid both recorded very quick times in the 100Y Free: Annie - 1:08.55, Ingrid - 1:07.86. And Matan did likewise, touching in a new lifetime best 1:43.15.

And speaking of new lifetime best times, Miles Kuhl and Lila Leal dropped so much time, they both seized for themselves our VSC Most Improved Swimmer of the Meet awards. Miles actually cleaved over 8 full seconds off his 50Y Back (:48.37) and another 5 seconds off his 100Y Free (1:31.91). Lila axed over 12 full seconds off her 50Y Breast (:54.60), as well as nearly 4 full seconds off her 100Y Free (1:23.62).

Pulling down our VSC Red White & Blue Fast Swims of the Meet. honors were Gretta Hegewald and Ari Mittelman. Gretta showed vast improvement throughout her events, while crushing for the 1st time the 40 second barrier in the 50Y Free (:38.16). Ari, who was competing in his 1st swim meet ever, posted legal swims in 5 out of his 6 races, with a very respectable :48.11 in the 50Y Free.

As always, ll of our VSC Post-Meet Reports can be viewed in the Events tab of our team website. Simply go to where you normally sign-up for a meet and Select the Performance Reports event. You will see the pdf files listed there. They are also permanently stored in our Events tab Archive, under the meet by its name. Simply select Past & Archive, then enter the meet dates.

As mentioned, this was our last meet of Long Course Season. So, all the reports are now Final. Kudos to the victors!

Next, we are off to the golf course for the 2022 VSC Miniature Golf Championships (and perhaps a little ice cream)! Details forthcoming.
