Kiran McGoogan Brings the Heat: Leads VSC @ 2022 HEAT Fall Invitational

Coach Taylor VSC Head Coach

12 VSC swimmers made the trip to Hillsboro, OR this past weekend to compete in the 2022 HEAT Fall Invitational. And it truly did get warm when our VSC swimmers dived into the pool! Nary an event slipped by that some VSC swimmer wasn't seen boiling the waters of the very nice Shute Park Aquatic and Recreation Center pool. In fact, one could say that it was VSC who brought the heat to the competition.

Such was certainly the case with our VSC Swimmer of the Meet Kiran McGoogan. Competing in his very first swim meet ever, Kiran opened with the very difficult Butterfly stroke. How's that for a beginning? Well, it didn't seem to matter! Kiran positively scorched the waters with a flawless swim, finishing 6th in :31.06 in his very 1st race ever, the 25Y Butterfly! He then went on the post a 4th place finish in the 25Y Back (:29.00), 4th in the 25Y Free (:25.71), 4th in the 25Y Breast (:35.89) and 5th in the 50Y Back (1:08.69). Oh, Kiran was also our VSC team top scorer for the whole meet - right out of the box!

Now that's how to open the show on Broadway, Kiran McGoogan! Bright lights, big city! Nice job!

Not to be completely outdone by their new teammate, our VSC swimmers did respond to his challenge with some high octane swims of their own. Claiming our VSC Fast Swims of the Meet honors were: 6 year old Elsie Holmes-100Y Back (2:01.21), Annie Morrison Garcia-50Y Free (:30.59R), Ingrid Morrison Garcia-50Y Free (:29.62RU), Matan Mittelman-200Y Free (3:24.36) and Riley Stevenson-100Y Breast (1:30.05). It is of further note that Elsie's 100Y Back swim represented our lone VSC event victory at the meet.

Speaking of swimming fast, 2 VSC swimmers dropped so much time in their swims that they actually melted the Coach's calculator when attempting to add up how much time they lopped-off their previous best times. All Miles Kuhl did was erase 9 seconds off his 50Y Breast (:48.88), 4 seconds off his 100Y Free (1:27.91), 23 seconds off his 100Y IM (1:40.06), and another 9 seconds off his 100Y Breast (1:50.62).

Lila Leal, responding to Miles' challenge, axed 12 seconds off her 100Y Fly (1:50.84), nearly 5 seconds off her 100Y Breast (1:51.81), and 2 and a half seconds off her already fast 100Y Free (1:21.15). Lila also swam the 200Y Back for the very first time ever in a very crisp 3:17.06. For their efforts, Miles and Lila were awarded our VSC Most Improved Swimmers of the Meet.

4 other ASC swimmers competed at the meet, each producing their own special VSC hot spot. Claiming our VSC Red White & Blue Fast Swims were: Declynn Geren-100Y Back (2:37.60), Gretta Hegewald-100Y Free (1:25.42), Tiki Khabra-100Y Breast (1:35.13), Misha Suturin-100Y Free (1:07.58).

As always, our VSC Post-Meet Reports can be viewed in our Performance Reports tab of our VSC team website. Just log-in and select Meets/Events. You will see the tab there. These files are also permanently stored in our Events tab, under the particular meet by its name. Simply select Past & Archive, then enter the meet dates. Take the time to review these reports. They give a lot of perspective on how our swimmers are doing, and most of them are fairly self-explanatory. Feel free to contact Coach Taylor with any question about these reports.
