VSC Keeps Improving @ 2022 PAC Fall Invitational

Coach Taylor VSC Head Coach

15 VSC swimmers made the short trip to the Matt Dishman Community Center Pool in Portland this past weekend to compete in the 2022 PAC Fall Invitational. And for a mid-season swim meet, right in the middle of mid-season training with no Championship in sight, our VSC swimmers still did a great job of improving and producing some new lifetime best swims.

Such was certainly the case with our VSC Co-Swimmers of the Meet Miles Kuhl and Noah Millikan. It seemed that every time you looked up at the scoreboard in a Boy's event, there was Miles or Noah or both posting some new fastest swim of their lives.

Miles set the tone early in his 100Y IM (1:28.97). That's an 8 second drop and with a time that's only 3 seconds off his 100Y Free time (1:25.65) What?!?! That's normally a plus 10 seconds from the 100Y Free to the 100Y IM. Miles then went on to record 5 more new lifetime best times in his 6 remaining swims.

Noah responded to Miles' challenge with some high octane swims of his own. Also posting 5 out of 6 new lifetime best times, as Miles did, Noah additionally secured a pair of 2nd place finishes overall in both the 50Y Butterfly (:39.27) and the 100Y Butterfly (1:37.73).

Claiming our VSC Fast Swims of the Meet honors were: Charlotte Carlson-25Y Free (:26.28), Annie Morrison Garcia-200Y IM (2:53.77), Ingrid Morrison Garcia-100Y Free (1:06.76), Elsie Holmes-25Y Free (:25.37) and Riley Stevenson-50Y Free (:31.06R).

Speaking of swimming fast, 2 VSC swimmers actually won events. Elsie won the Girl's 8 & Under 100Y Back (2:20.26) and the 50Y Breast (1:26.53). Kiran won the Boy's 8 & Under 100Y IM (2:14.94).

Gwen Carlson had an amazing meet. Competing as a 10 year old, Gwen swam so much faster than she ever had before, she posted 6 new lifetime best times in as many events. She opened with the 100Y IM (1:52.24), and then followed with her 100Y Back (1:53.53). She closed the show on Saturday by slicing nearly 17 seconds off her 100Y Free (1:44.18). Sunday brought the 50s. Gwen continued with more of the same: 50Y Free (:45.11), 50Y Fly (:59.01), 50Y Back (:51.24). For her efforts, Gwen was awarded our VSC Most Improved Swimmer of the Meet.

Our VSC Sandbagger of the Meet honors re-emerged at this meet. There were actually several swims that fit the bill, especially since The Sisters (Annie and Ingrid Morrison Garcia) were on the case. Classic Sandbaggers, both, Annie seized the award this time around with a huge negative split in her 100Y Back (:39.64-:37.78 - 1:17.42).

6 other ASC swimmers competed at the meet, each producing their own special swims. Claiming our VSC Red White & Blue Fast Swims of the Meet were: Brayden Baker-50Y Free (1:05.68), Wyatt Ballantine-25Y Back (:43.89), Gretta Hegewald-200Y Free (3:11.50), Tiki Khabra-200Y IM (3:06.60), Lila Leal-100Y Breast (1:48.02), Kiran McGoogan-100Y IM (2:14.94), Gautham Vishnu-50Y Back (1:12.58). Special kudos go out to Wyatt and Gautham, both of whom were competing in their 1st swim meet with VSC!

As always, our VSC Post-Meet Reports can be viewed in our Performance Reports tab of our VSC team website. Just log-in and select Meets/Events. You will see the tab there. These files are also permanently stored in our Events tab, under the particular meet by its name. Simply select Past & Archive, then enter the meet dates. Take the time to review these reports. They give a lot of perspective on how our swimmers are doing, and most of them are fairly self-explanatory. Feel free to contact Coach Taylor with any question about these reports.
