NOVA Partners
NOVA is a nonprofit organization that has always had a strong commitment to the community, and we have a long history of giving to others through our club. Our mission is to develop excellence in swimmers of all ages and abilities by challenging and motivating them to reach their full potential in swimming and in life.
Over the last few years, we have strengthened our involvement in the community and forged some strategic partnerships that allow us to further NOVA’s mission and our organization’s outreach goals, which revolve around creating healthy kids and families.
Some of our key partners include:
Ruby F. Carver Elementary School – Various Programs
Carver Elementary School is located less than two miles from NOVA. NOVA is an official partner of this school and initially supported it by offering spots for students in the movin’ mania swim lessons program. Our support has continued through grants for the school and their PTA and by providing volunteers for school events. In coming years, NOVA will be deepening our relationship with the school to support it in other ways as well.
Richmond Family Magazine and FeedMore – Dunk Hunger Food and Funds Drive
Over the last three years, The Virginia Swim Shop (wholly owned by NOVA) has partnered with FeedMore and Richmond Family Magazine to run Dunk Hunger, a summer food and funds drive which encourages summer league swim teams to collect donations for the food bank. Over 75,000 meals have been donated through these efforts. As a presenting partner, NOVA helps organize the event, underwrite the costs and manage marketing efforts. Goochland Family Services - Christmas Mother Program
For more than a decade, NOVA has partnered with the Goochland Christmas Mother to support families in need around the holidays. Our practice groups are each assigned a family, and our NOVA families then provide gifts according to the family’s need and wishes.
Short Pump Mile
Since 2009, NOVA has organized and promoted the largest youth timed road race in Richmond. In 2016, over 1,200 youth participated in the one-mile race and the 400 meter fun run. Each year, race sponsors award a total of $2,000 to the five schools with the highest number of participants; these prizes support the schools’ physical education programs. Net proceeds from the race support NOVA’s other outreach initiatives. For more information: Short Pump Mile and Express Fun Run
