Interview: Getting to Know Coach Mike J. 

Mike Julian joins NOVA after 15 years of coaching at Poseidon Swimming, leading the Age Group program to numerous national, state, and local awards and rankings. He has coached numerous NCSA qualifiers and state record holders. He was instrumental in leading Poseidon's Age group program to 2nd place at recent short course and long course age group championships. His boy’s age group team won the men's team title two years in a row at the National Age Group Championship meet in Clearwater, FL.

Mike swam four years at East Carolina University (1996-2000), finishing his swimming career as one of the most successful all around swimmers in ECU history by landing on the top 10 list in 5 different events. He was also elected by his teammates as a team captain in his junior and senior years, and while at ECU he received his Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. Prior to that, he was a Junior National level swimmer for QDD in Stafford, VA.  He began coaching for Greenville Swim Club in Greenville, NC prior to moving to Richmond to get his Master's degree from VCU in Sports Management. 

Mike and his wife, Julie, were married in 2003 and have four sons, Bryant (10), Brady (8), and twins Erik and Carson (7). In their spare time, the active family enjoys participating in triathlons, hiking, golf, as well as watching the many activities their sons compete in.
