2021 SC Senior Champs (NOVA) Prelims Meet Information

Welcome to the NOVA Aquatic Center and congratulations to your swimmers!

We would like to highlight a few things that will be unique to the Preliminary sessions for you and your families here at NOVA. Please familiarize yourself with this information and stress the importance that your swimmers and families also are aware of the expectations when attending a NOVA hosted meet. Much of this information is excerpted from NOVA’s Covid Meet Protocols which is attached.

Meet Director

Covid Health Screening: ·         

  • For initial daily entry, all non-athletes will go through a Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Screening Station attended by a NOVA employee or volunteer (consult facility map – yellow stars). The Health Screening questions will be presented. Once entry is permitted, all non-athletes will receive a wristband which must be shown for each subsequent entry indicating screening questions have been satisfied.
  • Daily Athlete Health Screenings – Visiting Team Swimmers
    • The daily VDH Health Screenings for visiting team athletes will be the responsibility of each team / Head Coach.
    • Coaches must provide written documentation to the Meet Director that all athletes satisfy health screening questions (located below), prior to initial daily entry.
    • Coaches may text or email Lori each morning that the athlete health screening has been satisfied (please include team name in text messages).
    • Below are the Health Screening questions to present to your families. 

YES or NO, are you currently experiencing any of the following symptoms?

1. A new fever (100.4°F or higher) or a sense of having a fever?

2. A new cough that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

3. New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

4. New chills that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

5. A new sore throat that you cannot attribute to another health condition?

6. New muscle aches (myalgia) that you cannot attribute to another health condition, or that may have been caused by a specific activity (such as physical exercise)?

7. A new loss of taste or smell?

8. Have you had a positive test for the virus that causes COVID-19 disease within the past 10 days?

9. In the past 14 days, have you had close contact (within about 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19?

10. In the past 14 days, have you traveled internationally?

 

IF ANY QUESTION IS ANSWERED AS “YES”, YOU MAY NOT BE PERMITTED TO ENTER THE FACILITY

Warm-Up:

  • Please stage your athletes on the appropriate “X’s” outside your assigned Pool prior to warm-up. Face coverings must be worn under the tents.
  • A NOVA employee will grant your team access into the facility once the pool deck is clear.
  • We recommend assigning your swimmers lanes and starting location. 
  • Teams are limited to 6 swimmers per lane with no more than 3 per end of the pool. Teams should plan on swimmers starting from both ends of the pool.
  • Please maintain social distancing when transitioning swimmers through 1 way starts.

Coach Seating:

  • No chairs may be brought into the NOVA Aquatic Center for this meet.
  • We will be able to accommodate all coaches on deck however there will be assigned seating by team.
  • Please look for your seating location once you arrive at Pool 1 (Competition Pool).

Meet Administration:

  • Please make sure you and your families are familiar with how results will be processed, announced, and posted. Please be patient for results as we are processing from 2 locations.

Live Stream - Let your teams know!

FM Simulcast:

  • Meet announcements will be simulcast on 91.3 FM
  • There will be a delay on the livestream of a few seconds. It is recommended to only use 1 audio source for parents in cars.

Pool 2 (Continuous Warm-up):

  • Personal belongings cannot be left in Pool 2 while swimmers go through clerk of course / competition. Swimmers must take all belongings with them.
  • Swimmers must wear a mask at all times unless actively in the process of warming-up / down.
  • Camping out or extended socializing will not be permitted and swimmers will be asked to exit the facility.
  • Please ask swimmers to be respectful of volunteer marshalls and NOVA staff in Pool 2. We are in this together!

Locker Rooms:

  • Locker Rooms will remain closed. It is highly recommended athletes arrive to the meet in the suit they will compete in as there is limited room for changing in the bathrooms. 
  • Deck and Parking lot changing is prohibited.

Lap Counters:

  • Parents may count for athletes in the 500 Free. Counters will stage at the Pool 2 Main Entrance (under the big tent) and will be escorted into the Competition Pool.
