You’ve probably been in the Virginia Swim Shop, NOVA’s on-site store, but we bet you don’t know all there is to know about it. Keep reading to learn what’s new for this year, the services that we offer, and what our new NOVA Nook is.

What Can The Virginia Swim Shop Do for YOU?

The Virginia Swim Shop opened over 20 years ago in the truck of a coach’s car, and it has a long history of helping swimmers find everything needed for swimming. The Shop carries practice and team swimsuits, technical suits, custom spirit wear, and gear – in short, whatever you need, from lessons to Masters. Featured brands include Speedo, Dolfin, TYR and Nike. NOVA families who purchase at the Swim Shop help support our club – the store’s profits contribute significantly to NOVA’s budget and help keep our nonprofit organization running smoothly and our families’ cost as low as possible. So check out our merchandise and competitive prices before ordering online or going to a big box or sporting goods store. We bet we have what you need!

Fall hours for the Shop are Monday – Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and weekends during home meets and a few selected other dates, to be announced. Our shop Manager, Nancy Pappas, as well as our awesome employees, can help you find just what you need. Nancy is always adding fresh merchandise that both swimmers and parents love.

A second large part of the Shop’s business is team outfitting. Mary Anne Haulsee is the Team Sales Manager and the leads the charge on this segment of business. Over the last few years, NOVA has gone from working with just a few teams to over 50 in area summer leagues alone. We provide suits, caps, and custom spirit wear to these teams and focus on great customer service in the process. Another area we are growing is outfitting of high school teams. The Shop is working with all of the Henrico County club teams, plus St. Margaret’s (Tappahannock), St. Michaels (Fredericksburg) and, locally, St. Gertrude’s and Benedictine. Mary Anne also outfits year round for Stafford Aquatics (STAT), the Chester YMCA and the Richmond Racers. We even do business with a team in the Virgin Islands – can anyone say road trip!?!

The Shop also does custom embroidery, screen printing and heat pressing. Need a swim bag embroidered? We can do that. Need help with getting your logo on a t-shirt? Yep. Want ideas for a new logo for your summer league team? We’ve got you covered. Need a gift for your favorite swimmer? No problem.

Probably the most important thing you’ll find in our shop, however, is great service. As the only dedicated swim shop in the region, we’re experts. We know swimming, and can help answer all your questions while getting you geared up.

Introducing The NOVA Nook

What’s The NOVA Nook? It’s a place where swimmers can purchase healthy snacks and drinks to fuel their bodies in the right way. The vending machines are gone and so are the not-so-great-for-you snacks and drinks. The NOVA Nook is located in the Shop and offers items such as bottled water, milk, and Body Armor sports drinks, fruit, pretzels, cereal bars, and more. Stop in to see what’s on offer. Prices range from $0.50 for a bag of Goldfish crackers to $2.00 for a Luna Bar.

New Systems Will Improve Service & Convenience

This summer, the Shop instituted a new point of sale system. So what, you say? Well, besides bringing our system up to date, it will offer us some new possibilities which will improve our customer service. We will be able to have more than one register working during busy times, making your wait time shorter. We’ll be able to email receipts, which is not only environmentally friendly but will give you a digital record of your purchases. The system will also allow for mobile payment processing, which means that on-site summer suit outfitting will be so much more efficient for buyers and NOVA volunteers helping out.

Best of all, the system allows us to add an “on account” feature. What does this mean for you? You will be able to add funds to your store account with cash, credit card or check. In essence, it’s a little bank account for your swimmers. So, when they have lost their goggles, ripped their cap, or just need a healthy snack, they will be able to stop in the Shop and make the purchase.

We are Community Minded

The Shop not only cares for the NOVA community, it serves the greater Richmond community as well. Working with area summer league and high school teams helps us meet an important part of the NOVA mission – to grow the sport of swimming.

And, for the past four years, The Virginia Swim Shop has been a presenting sponsor of Dunk Hunger, a summertime food and funds drive benefitting FeedMore and the Central Virginia Food Bank. Through these efforts, the equivalent of over 400,000 meals have been provided in our area.

Want to Help?

If you are interested in volunteering in the shop during the year, please email us with your availability during the hours stated above. We love help on home meet weekends too! And, if anyone is savvy in the area of website maintenance, we’d love some help adding product photos. Email Nancy at vaswimshop@novaswim.org. Or, if you love summer swim league and want to help with outfitting, email Mary Anne at vaswimshopteamsales@novaswim.org. Or, call The Shop at 804-754-3402.
