Poseidon Swim School

Poseidon Swim School’s mission is to ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability,
has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.

Choosing the Correct Class for my Child

The following is an outline of the skills at each level. Please use the entire skills checklist to determine the appropriate level for your child. Preschool levels are for swimmers 3 and 4 years old. Levels 1 - 5 are for swimmers 5 years and older.

Pre-School Levels ages 3-4 – Must be potty trained – No goggles are permitted as comfort in the water is essential for skill advancement. Students in the Preschool Class will work independently in the water with an instructor. This is most often the first swim lesson for swimmers. Students will work on the following objectives and may move to Advanced Beginner when they can achieve these skills independently.

Group size is a minimum of 3 and is capped at 4 for safety and to maximize instruction time. 6 – 30 minute lessons are included in each block. Classes are determined by ability. The skills taught are individualized with a focus on safety.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Phase 3 COVID-19 guidelines, Preschool, Advanced Preschool and Level 1 classes CANNOT be offered at this time. Since we are required to maintain a 10ft distance between students, it would be impossible for our instructors to remain within a safe distance of each child while providing instruction. Instead, we can offer these students Private, Semi-Private and Parent/Beginner classes. The instructor will be in the water with your child for Private and Semi-Private lessons. For Parent/Beginner classes, a parent (or adult) will accompany each child in the water and receive direction from one of our instructors.

Parent/Beginner Classes, ages 3-5

Have fun with your child in the water and help teach them beginner swimming skills and water safety! Group class size is a minimum of 3 parent/child pairs and a maximum of 5 pairs. Instructor provides games, toys and lively instruction to keep both the child and parent engaged.

Poseidon Stroke School

Continued learning is available for swimmers upon completion of level 5 and available for those swimmers who already are established swimmers. Underwater videotaping is included for all participants. Numbers are capped in order to keep a good coach to swimmer ratio.  Group size is a minimum of 3 and is capped at 6.  6 – 60 minute lessons are included.

High School Team Prep

A great way to prepare for the high school swim season by improving stroke technique and getting a head start on conditioning.  Designed for swimmers who already have some type of previous swim team experience. Group size is a minimum of 3 and is capped at 9. 6 – 60 minute practices are included in each session.

Adult Lessons/ Triathlon Swim Training

Separate programs for adults – one for adults interested in learning to swim and one designed for triathletes (students and adults) who want to improve their freestyle, increase distance and generate more power per stroke, evaluate stroke with underwater videotaping and personalized feedback. Group size is a minimum of 3 and is capped at 5.  6 – 60 minute classes are included in each session.

*Please note that if a swimmer is placed in the incorrect level we will do our best to find a slot in that session for them in the correct level, but we cannot guarantee it. Placing a swimmer in a level that they are not ready for is not appropriate and will not accelerate progression in our program. Swimmers that have not been in the water for several months will lose skills they may have mastered before, so enrolling in a level below is usually appropriate.
