Delwyn Jones Head Coach

Delwyn Jones was born and raised in the Fredericksburg area. He is married and has three children ages 7,10 and 19. Delwyn coached with the RAYS for 5 years, before relocating to Florida, where he spent a few months learning from, and working with accomplished coaches and talented swimmers in the Tampa area. After that, he became the Head Coach for the Rappahannock Raiders. During his time, the team doubled in size in the first two seasons. Delwyn developed a highly competitive senior group, with many national level swimmers. He has had multiple Scholastic All American Swimmers, and in 2018 STAT sent 4 swimmers on to swim collegiately, with 3 of those swimmers competing in Division 1 Programs and had a swimmer being recruited for 2019 by multiple Top 20 Division 1 Programs in the nation. He had the privilege to train and assist one of his swimmers in qualifying for and competing in the Paralympic Trials. Through the years, Delwyn has led age group and senior swimmers to become State Champions in VA Swimming and in High School, Zones Champions, and has had several swimmers achieve Top 10 Virginia Swimming, Eastern Zone, and National Rankings. During his first year and a half with the STAT senior group, they established 40 new team records between short and long course competition. He has had multiple champions at NASA Juniors and has had swimmers achieve top 16 finishes at NCSA Juniors, Sectionals and Pro Series Meets. He has also assisted in the coaching of multiple Olympic Trial, and World Championship Trial qualifiers.

 

Michelle Pugh Head Age Group Coach

 

Coach Michelle has been a competitive swimmer since the age of 5 and continued beyond college, where she attended and swam for Towson State University, Division I and held team records for over 20 years in the 50, 100 free as well as records in the 200 free, and multiple Relays. She was the first swimmer from Towson to win 2 first place finishes in the ECC Championship Meet and was a walk on team member. In addition to a strong aquatics management background, she has taught swim lessons, adaptive swim classes, and water aerobics for more than 30 years. She is an American Red Cross Instructor and has taught an abundance of lifeguarding classes, CPR/AED, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches for the past 10 years.

 

Coach Michelle has been the head coach for multiple summer league teams, and has taught countless swimmers how to swim. She worked with the Rays for 9 years as the head coach of their Age Group 1 group and as the assistant coach for the Junior group. During that time, Michelle was very successful being the primary coach for multiple age group qualifiers, year after year, as well as 2 state champions and several swimmers who finished in the top 3. She also helped coach several swimmers in the Junior group to Age Groups and Senior Champs, which also included multiple state champions and top 3 finishers in various events. She then became the Head Age Group Coach for Rappahannock Raiders for 2 years continuing to produce top level swimmers to include NASA Elite Age Group Qualifier.  She is a wife and mother of two adult children and has lived in Stafford County for 14 years.

 

I am excited to bring my knowledge, energy, and skills to my new team, STAT in April 2017!  Let’s go!!

Kaylee Kilkenney Assistant Coach

Coach Kaylee grew up as a multi-sport athlete and has been swimming since she was 6, but didn’t start competitive swimming until the age of 9. Kaylee, having grown up in many different states, has experienced swimming for many different teams but joined STAT in 2017. Coach Kaylee has swam under both Coach Delwyn and Michelle for a multitude of years. Kaylee has been in and out of the water since 2015 battling and recovering from many different injuries but has continued to come back to the pool with the love of the sport stronger each time. Coach Kaylee hopes to be able to share her love of the sport through coaching as well as continuing to swim under Delwyn in the Senior group.  As a freshman in college. Kaylee is absolutely overjoyed to be working along side fellow coaches and coaching the swimmers on STAT!

Scott Lamond Dryland Coach

 

Coach Scott has grown up in the Fredericksburg area and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.  He is a multi-sport athlete but has primarily played competitive hockey since the age of 4. He is a Freelance Personal Trainer in the Fredericksburg and Stafford area.This is Scott’s first year with STAT and he is excited to bring a variety of new strength and conditioning techniques to the team. His goal is to help swimmers gain confidence and strength in and out of the pool.
