The Vashon Seals Swim Team is a year-round program for competitive and non-competitive swimmers, ages 6 to 18.  Founded in 1983, we are a not-for-profit 501c(3) organization. As a member club of USA Swimming and Pacific Northwest Swimming, we are overseen by the national and regional governing bodies of the sport.

Our program is located at the Vashon Community Pool - 25 yards / 6 lanes. The pool is covered by a bubble from Mid-October to Mid-April, and we swim outdoors the rest of the year. We conduct 4 sessions per year:  Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer.

Welcome to Winter 2020 Registration

SESSION DATES: Wednesday, January 8 - Friday, April 3 (Note there will be no swimming on Jan. 20 or Feb. 17-21)

  • Seal Pups Learn to Swim Program: Monday Feb. 3 - Monday, March 30

PROGRAMS: We have updated the programs that will be offered - all of the details are below.

ESCROW ACCOUNTS: During each registration period an escrow account is opened for all Level 3, Silver and Gold swimmers only. This will cover the cost of entering swim meets during the session. Prior to entries being submitted for a swim meet, an email is sent to confirm participation and a deadline is provided to respond. If we do not receive a response from you by the deadline, your child will be entered in the meet and your escrow account will be debited. Unused escrow balances will be refunded at the end of each session.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your continued support of our program.

Seal Pups Learn to Swim (ages 4-8 / Mondays 3:00-3:30 & 3:30-4:00 / Feb. 3 - March 30 / cost: $100 + fees): This program is desgined for those who are already comfortable in the water and/or have had some lessons in the past. We build each swimmer's foundation by focusing first on their comfort level and orientation in the water and safety skills. We then move on to the fundamentals of basic swimming with the goal of preparing them to move to our level 1 group and beyond.

LEVEL 1 (ages 6-9 / Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 / cost: $162 + fees): This is an entry-level group where we focus on stroke technique and kicking - with an emphasis on breathing, balance and having fun. Swimmers will be introduced to drills, turns, and basic water safety. As they progress, swimmers will become more comfortable with longer distances, applying skills with more fluidity and confidence - and they can also begin to attend swim meets for training and practice. To enter this group, swimmers should be able to: swim 25 yards any style - be comfortable underwater and able to exhale - be able to jump in and get to the side of the pool - float face down and on back - listen and follow directions without being disruptive.

LEVEL 2 (ages 7-10 / Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00 - 5:00 / cost: $ 310.50 + fees): This group is designed for swimmers who have just completed Level 1 or a lesson program and have little to no competitive swimming experience. Requirements for entering this group: 50 yard Freestyle with side breathing, 25 yard Backstroke, 25 yards Flutter kick with a kick board, 25 yard Backstroke kick in a streamline, beginning knowledge of Breaststroke and Butterfly, the ability to listen and follow directions without being disruptive

LEVEL 3 (ages 8-12 / Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 4:00-5:00 / cost: $314.50 + fees): The progression from Level 2 to Level 3 is based upon a swimmer's maturity and readiness to take on an increase in training volume and drills to improve technique. At this level, swimmers will be introduced to training sets and working towards the ability to confidently swim 50s & 100s as their main events. We train with the clock and improve competency across all four strokes by focusing on drills and techniques for stroke, kicking, body position, starts, turns and relays. These swimmers attend three 1-hour practices per week, and put their training into action by competing approximately once a month.

SILVER (ages 11-18 / Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 3:00-5:00 / cost: $476 + fees):  At this level swimmers are in competitive groups where training sessions become more challenging. There is a consistent emphasis on technique across all four strokes and building stamina. Our goal for these swimmers is to be self-motivated and 'own' swimming as their sport without parental pressure to attend practice/meets. Swimmers focus on more complex sets, goal setting, maintaining a supportive team environment and competing at distances from 50 to 1,650 yards. Head position, body position, streamlines, starts, turns, kick, body control and maturity are all factors in determining whether the swimmer is ready for this group. Minimum requirements: 500 yard Freestyle, 100 yard Backstroke, 100 yard Breaststroke, 100 yard IM, 50 yard Butterfly, ability to demonstrate a safe forward start and legal turns for all 4 strokes. Swimmers attend three 2-hour practices per week and put their training into action by competing approximately once a month.

GOLD (ages 12-18 / Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays 3:00-5:00 / cost: $630 + fees): This is our highest competitive level where training sessions are more challenging. There is a consistent emphasis on technique, competency across all four strokes, and building stamina. Self-motivation and 'ownership' of their swimming is key. These swimmers focus on more complex sets, goal setting, maintaining a supportive team environment, and achieving the ability to compete at distances from 50 to 1,650 yards. Swimmers attend four 2-hour practices per week and put their training into action by competing approximately once a month.
