DUCKS SWIMMING TRAINING GROUPS

Future Ducks | Swim Team Preparation

For swimmers who are interested in being on the swim team, but not quite ready for Level 1. Focus is on skills needed to start on the team. 3 days a week/30 minute practice. And for those who need a little more instruction (or for younger siblings), the Y offers an excellent Lake Geneva swimming lesson program that provides a bridge to swim team!

Spotted Ducks | Age Group 1 | Beginning-Level Swimmers

The objective of this swim team group is to teach the fundamentals and mechanics of each stroke. Swimmers entering swim team must be able to swim at least two lengths of the pool freestyle (front crawl) and two lengths of the pool backstroke. A swimmer in this group should have some experience with breaststroke and butterfly, and he/she should be able to endure an hour-long practice. This group provides a fun atmosphere and introduces swimmers to competition when ready.

Lake Ducks | Age Group 2 | Generally Swimmers 7-13 years of age

The objectives of this group are to continue to refine stroke technique and build endurance in all four strokes, as well as compete regularly in meets. Swimmers in this swim team group should be able to swim all 4 strokes; they will continue to learn new drills and further develop starts and turns. They will also learn how to use a pace clock and be introduced to goal setting and interval training to prepare them for the next level of training and competition.

Wood Ducks | Senior 1 | Generally Swimmers 9-15 years of age

This swim team group is for our experienced competitors who are ready for a more serious level of training and competition. The objectives of this group are to develop stroke mastery, further build endurance, and establish goals and training habits to be successful at end-of-season competitions and prepare to move to the next level of training and competition. Swimmers should be committed to attending at least four practices each week and regularly compete in scheduled meets throughout the season. Dryland training in this group is primarily focused on developing more strength, endurance, and flexibility to prepare swimmers for success and the next level.

Mallard Ducks | Senior 2 | Generally Swimmers 13-18+ years of age

This swim team group is for late middle school age and high school varsity-level swimmers who are ready and willing to train for elite level competitions. Swimmers in this group will continue dryland training for strength, injury prevention, and flexibility purposes. This group focuses on race preparation, goal setting, aerobic, anaerobic, and specific stroke training, race strategy, pace work, and continued technique and mechanics work on strokes, starts, and turns. Swimmers in this group should be committed to attending 2-hour practices daily and attending as many weekend meets as possible throughout the season.
