MAC Meet Recap, Trials and Upcoming Meets!

Janis Katz

As we wrapped up the final formal meet reporting, we want to thank everyone for making our annual MAC Summer Challenge another great success! We appreciate all of your time and effort in running the meet and hosting over 640 swimmers. There were a lot of happy faces as well as a tough moment that we shared with other teams in our swimming community.

Our next host meet and final host meet of the summer is Speedo Sectionals July 9-11 at Pleasant Prairie. We were fortunate to win the bid for this meet especially since the 2020 meet was canceled. Eligibility reports are updated after every meet and posted. We hope you were able to catch the excitement of the Olympic Trials!

We are proud of our MAC swimmers who competed in the Wave 1 of the 2021 Olympic Team Trials in Omaha! It was a wonderful experience to be a part of! Sophie Fiske and Jack Englehardt both competed in their first US Olympic Team Trials and had great races against some tough competition. The CHI Health Center is an enormous facility that is 1.1 million square feet and the area that the pool is in seats 18,975 people.

Sophie took 17th place in the 50 Free moving up from being seeded 49th. In prelims, she tied for 17th just missing finals by one hundredth of a second. A swim off was required for the alternate spot, which Sophie won going 25.79 which was a personal best by .17. Her time would have been fast enough to place 5th place in finals and is a new team record!

Jack Englehardt also had a strong performance in the 50 Free and took 32nd place which was the same as his seed. He swam a time of 23.18, which was his second fastest time. Jack also had the 3rd fastest start reaction time of everyone competing in the event.

MAC alumni Constantin Bensch also had a great swim in the 100 fly taking 26th place moving up from 38th place. After qualifying at a last chance meet just a week prior to trials. He had a very strong performance!

It goes without saying that it has been quite a time. None of us could have imagined what the last year and a half have could have dealt all of us. What we value most is the support you have given us and provided to each other during this time. We are stronger together! And, we did indeed persevere!

Congratulations to all our athletes, families and coaches for being part of our team which is ranked 53rd in the Nation by the American Swimming Coaches Association! Congratulations to Brecken Curran, Max Drake, Abigail Frommelt and Brynn Sundell on their Top 20 national ranking!

We look forward to better days ahead!!
