Pre-Competitive Learn to Swim – PC:

Rocket Aquatic's(RA) Pre-Competitive program is geared toward the development and preparation of swimmers ages 4-8 for the competitive swim team. The program includes 4 highly structured levels of instruction which are executed by RA’s Senior Team members. Pre-Comp is overseen by the Head Age Group Coach and the Pre-Competitive Program Supervisor. As a swimmer progresses through each group, he/she will refine his/her technique in each of the 4 competitive swimming strokes and will receive training in various competitive swimming skills (racing starts, turns, and finishes). Swimmers who have reached the final group in the progression(Superstars) are offered the opportunity to participate in RA Home Meets and select 8&Under meets held throughout each season.

Descriptions of levels:

Bronze Pre-comp is the first of 4 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include previous experience/exposure to swimming freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke. Swimmers in this group are working to refine their freestyle and backstroke technique in order to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke when they join the swim team. This group introduces competitive swimming skills such as appropriate streamline push-offs, backstroke starts, and flip turns.

Silver Pre-comp is the second of 4 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain basic stroke technique for freestyle and backstroke for 10 yards. Swimmers in this group continue to refine their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke technique and build endurance in order to efficiently complete 25 yards of each stroke when they join the team. This group also targets competitive swimming skills such as development of flip turns and introduction to backstroke finishes.

Gold Pre-comp is the third of 4 highly structured groups geared toward preparation of young swimmers for competitive swimming. Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke technique for 15 yards and the demonstration of basic breaststroke technique. Swimmers in this group increase their endurance in freestyle and backstroke in order to complete 25 yards of each stroke while maintaining proper stroke technique and work to refine breaststroke technique to ensure legal execution of the breaststroke kick. This group is introduced to butterfly, breaststroke/butterfly finishes, and racing starts (dives) and works to refine flip turns and backstroke finishes.

SuperStars Pre-comp This is the final group in the Pre-Comp progression where swimmers continue to focus on proper stroke technique for the four competitive swimming strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). Prerequisites to this group include the ability to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke technique for 25 yards and the demonstration of breaststroke and butterfly technique for at least 10 yards. Swimmers in this group will work on all competitive swimming skills (diving, finishes, turns) and are given the opportunity to register with USA Swimming and participate in Rocket Aquatics Home Meets. Swimmers in this group will be offered an opportunity to join the first competitive group on the team (Silver Novice) upon demonstration of 25 yards of each stroke.
