SPDY Update 8/4/2020

Good afternoon SPDY Families.

I hope this message finds you all well and enjoying our last month of summer. I want to give you all a brief update on where we are at as a program and what the fall could potentially look like.

The two week sessions have been a huge success for those that have been able to participate. The kids have been making great strides in the water as we have been heavily focused on technique work for all four strokes. They have also been doing a phenomenal job following our safety procedures. We had a front desk staff member comment on how polite and respectful the swimmers have been upon coming into the building. I’m so proud of all of our kids for how we are handling changing situations like we are dealing with.

We will be offering a third, two-week, session starting next Monday, August 10 and run until August 21. The setup will be identical to the first two sessions. There will be two Senior/Senior Elite options (7:00AM & 4:00 PM) and two Junior/Junior Elite options (8:15 AM & 5:15PM). Registration for Session 3 will be available on the team website Thursday, August 6 at 6:30PM.

Following that session, we will plan on running a short, one-week session August 24-28. Information for that session will be made available as we get closer to that date. We will then take a two week break to give kids and families a chance to adjust to school schedules and to give us a chance to finalize all plans for September. The hope is that we will be able to offer programming on a wider scale the week of September 14. With the ever-changing climate we are in, I don’t think it’s a good idea to offer a 6 month season. Instead, we will evaluate on a month by month basis what we are able to offer to our swimmers. I understand the desire to have a more concrete and long-term plan for scheduling purposes, but we are not to that point yet.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me.

All the best.

Coach Eric
