SPDY Fall Programming Update

SPDY Fall Programming Update

Thank you all so much for your patience as we put together a plan to get as many swimmers in the water in the safest way possible. The following is an outline of our plan for the next two months.

Weeks of September 7 & September 14

We will not be running organized practices for any groups. I think it would be a great idea to let the first two weeks of school happen before starting back up. Instead, we will offer the open, lap swim options on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. One group at 4:00, the next at 5:10. 12 spots will be open each day at each time. Sign-up will be the same as the previous weeks through the “job signup” function of the event. This option will be available for Junior Elite and above swimmers. I am also asking that swimmers 16 and over refrain from signing up for this option since they are free to utilize the facility without having an adult with them. Registration for a lap swim spot will open on Monday, September 7 at 5:00 PM. There is no charge for this.

September 21 – October 30

Programming will be offered for all training groups!!! Obviously, this will look different than the past. We will be running all groups with a maximum of 3 swimmers per lane. This means we will only be able to have 18 swimmers in the water at a time. With these safety precautions in place, we will not be able to offer the flexible scheduling we had in the past.

Training Groups

Our initial plan will condense our traditional 6 training groups down to 3 (Senior/Junior/Developmental). We will be assigning swimmers to lanes with other swimmers of similar ability levels. It will be common to see one group, perhaps doing 2 or three different practices based on the ability levels of the swimmers. We understand a one size fits all approach is not the best, so we will make sure every child is properly placed in the appropriate lane.

Practice Schedule (September 21- October 30)

Developmental Group A: Monday & Wednesday 5:10-5:55PM.

Developmental Group B: Tuesday & Thursday 5:10-5:55 PM.

Junior Group A: Monday & Wednesday 6:05-7:05 PM; Friday 5:30-6:15 PM.

Junior Group B: Tuesday & Thursday 6:05-7:05 PM; Friday 6:15-7:00 PM.

Senior Group A: Monday & Wednesday 5:30-7:00 AM; Tuesday & Thursday 3:30-5:00 PM; Friday 3:30-4:30 PM.

Senior Group B: Monday & Wednesday 3:30-5:00 PM; Tuesday & Thursday 5:30-7:00 AM; Friday 4:30-5:30 PM.

Explanation of Schedule:

We know that it will be impossible to make everyone happy with this schedule, but this is what we are able to offer right now. We feel that every group is getting an adequate number of practices offered per week, all be it not always at preferred times of the day. There are other options that we are weighing right now as we progress into the winter, but it’s important to evaluate how this works for these first six weeks. Our hope is that we will be able to add more and not have to take away opportunities.

Program Fees:

September 21-October 30

Developmental: $70

Junior: $90

Senior: $120

Fees will be applied to your account balance on the team website. All program fees will need to be paid by October 1, 2020.

Registration:

Registration will be performed the exact same way we have been doing it all summer, through the team website. Practice groups will be set up as an event and you will sign-up by using the “job signup” function. For those that haven’t done this for the summer, it is the same way you signed up to volunteer at our home meets.

Each practice group will have only 18 spots, or 36 total combining the A and B groupings. This gives us a total of 108 roster spots. The hardest part of this whole process is knowing that some swimmers who wish to participate, will not get the chance right away. Last season we had 137 registered swimmers. Please understand, we will continue to do our best to add spots and create opportunities as we move forward.

Registration will go live on the website Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 PM.

Spectators:

In order to keep numbers on the pool deck low, we will be continuing to NOT allow spectators on the Training Pool deck during practices.

Swim Meets:

We are currently working both internally and regionally with best practices to run a swim meet. We currently do not have any meets on our schedule to report. As a State, we are trying to have each team come up with a plan by the end of October. We will be working hard to get an intrasquad meet together sometime next month. At this time, I do not foresee large invitational style swim meets or cross state travel. We will be working closely with our neighboring teams to provide safe competitions when we get the go ahead from local health departments and YMCA executives.

New Swimmers:

With the current caps on groups we will not be able to offer two-week trial periods like we had done in the past. We will wait and see if there are even roster spots available before offering up a “Try-it” period that will be more organized with an assigned time. New swimmers interested in joining SPDY should contact Coach Eric.

I know that is a lot of information to digest. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. I do ask that all questions be directed to me, not the front desk.
