David Anderson Head Coach/Executive Director

Anderson, 56, is in his 35th year of coaching and 25th at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.  Since 1985, Anderson has coached a Paralympian, an USA Olympic Team Triathlete, 28 Olympic Trials qualifiers, and three Olympic Trials finalists, a Junior World Championship Team Member, 16 Big Ten and Big Eight Conference Champions, five US Open Champions, 51 USA National Finalists, a USA National Champion and two USA National Championship Relays, five USA National Junior Team Members, three USA National Team Members, two Junior National Champions to six Junior National records, and 12 National YMCA Champions.  Anderson has been a member of the USA National Team and Junior Team Coaching Staff,  Head Coach of the Southern Zone Select Camp, named YMCA National Coach of the year in 1996 and again in 2007 and 2013, and led the Schroeder YMCA Swim Team to a National Combined Team Title in 1997 and the Women's Team Championship in 1999.  

Anderson began coaching high school and club swimming in his home state of Pennsylvania in the Philadelphia area.  In 1987, Dave moved to Lincoln, Nebraska as a graduate assistant with the University of Nebraska's men's team and in 1989 he was named Men's Assistant Swimming Coach at the University of Minnesota.  The Gophers finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships four times and he earned his Masters degree in Education.  He is/has served as WI Swimming's Senior Chair, the Central Zone's Coach Director, has been a member of USA Swimming's Board of Directors and has been a member of the National YMCA Coaches Committee several times.

Dave coaches high school, college and post graduate ages.  A graduate of Hartwick College (NY), Dave enjoys a variety of athletic endeavors including cycling, ski marathon and ski touring.  Anderson is married to Laura Petrie Anderson. They have a daughter, Grace, and the family lives in Shorewood, Wisconsin.

Wendy blunt Head Novice Coach / Masters Coach

Wendy coaches Age Group 3, Super 8's, Super Stars, Schroeder Stars, Home School, Masters, and Adult Novice.  Wendy grew up swimming for the Milwaukee Recreation Department Piranhas and then for Schroeder.  She has an extensive aquatics background and has taught swimming for Milwaukee County and has been a lifeguard at Milwaukee County pools and beaches.   Wendy is a massage therapist, she coaches the Masters team and is an avid water polo player.

Phil is currently in his seventh year of coaching and his fifth with the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.  Phil grew up outside New York City, swimming for the Badger Swim Club in Larchmont, NY through high school.  He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he swam for 4 years.  At Madison, Phil competed in multiple Nationals, NCAA championships and the 2008 Olympic Trials.  A former school record holder in the 100 freestyle and 200 free relay, Phil completed his collegiate career in 2010 and started coaching for Badger Aquatic Club, where he worked for two years before moving to Milwaukee for graduate school.


Since relocating to Milwaukee in 2012, Phil has coached multiple groups at Schroeder, and is now the lead Age Group coach for the South groups.  He has also been the coach of Marquette High School for five seasons.

Caleb Hernday Coach AG1 Jr 1 @ WSAC

Caleb is entering his seventh year of coaching and his second with Schroeder.  Prior to Schroeder, Caleb coached for one year for the Tosa Swordfish and the past four with Lake Country Phoenix.  At LAKE, he coached all age groups from the Super 8s to the Senior Platinum.  He also was the assistant coach for the Arrowhead Girls for four years and the Arrowhead Boys for two years.  For one year he was the Head Coach for St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy  High School team.


Caleb was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but has lived in Wisconsin for most of his life. He graduated from UWM with a degree in Kinesiology in 2017. He believes that this sport comes down to two things: Swimming Fast and Having Fun. 

Chandler Lewis Senior/ JR/ Masters @ Schroeder Prep

Chandler is in his 4th year of Coaching with Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. Chandler graduated from the University Wisconsin Whitewater with a bachelors in human health & Performance and a minor in coaching. While at Whitewater Chandler was a team captain, a 3 x 1st team all-conference and finished top 3 in school history in several events.

Chandler has a wide range of coaching experience from helping coach with Jhawk Aquatic Club, Cedarburg High School and assisting with the Wisconsin Badger Performance Swim Camps. Chandler has over 16 years of swimming experience and has been part of the Schroeder Swim Team for 8 years; first as a swimmer and now as a coach. Chandlers role at Schroeder is spent on the south side of town where he is the lead senior/junior & masters coach at Schroeder prep.

Chandler also has a passion in Strength & Conditioning and after concluding his internship at Athlete Performance he recieved his ACE personal training license.

Don Jackson Super Stars Coach

Don is a volunteer coach for Super Stars, Masters and he is an avid golfer. He and his wife Jessie, had three boys go through the YMCA's swim team. His oldest was a multiple team record holder and was a YMCA National Champion. Don is retired from the Milwaukee Fire Department where during his career he rose from the rank of Fireman to second in command, as Assistant Chief.  When Don isn't enjoying a round of golf, playing guitar or swimming with the Masters team, he does an outstanding job with Schroeder's youngest swimmers teaching fundamentals, values and fun. Don also has introduced and mentored many adult athletes in the Schroeder Masters Team.

Sarah Wenszell Jr 2 & AG 3 & Adult Novice Coach @ WSAC

Sarah grew up swimming on the Schroeder YMCA Swim Team and now coaches Schroeder's Super 8s. Sarah is currently at UW-Milwaukee getting her bachelor degree in Athletic Training and then her masters degree in Physical Therapy.

Amy Schulz Swimming Coach

I have been swimming for over 15 years including 4 years at the DIII level at Wittenberg University. I still swim as a part of the WSAC Masters program and currently coach the Bananas. I just graduated from Wittenberg this past May with a degree in Exercise Science and am currently attending Concordia University for a degree in Physical Therapy. 

Tyler Hines Coach

Tyler coaches Age Group 1, 2, and 3 at the South site. He graduated from UW-Madison in 2015 and Chicago-Kent School of Law in 2018. Tyler grew up in Normal, Illinois where he swam for the Redbird Swim Club and University High School. He has swum competitively since he was 4 years old. 

At Madison, Tyler was a team captain, Big Ten finalist, honorable mention all-american, and was a part of two record setting 800 free relays. After graduating from Madison, he was the head age group coach for the Waunakee Wave for two years.

During the day, Tyler works as the staff attorney for the Honorable Kevin Martens of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court. He married fellow Schroeder coach Jenny Holtzen in August of 2018 and enjoys politics, exercising, and taking care of he and Jenny's two dogs, Boomer and Lola.

Alexander Hallam Coach

Alex had a long career as a swimmer and is continuing his passion for the sport through coaching. He has been coaching full-time since 2012 and has coached age group to senior level swimmers. Alex has been with the club since 2015 and is the Assistant Coach for the UW Milwaukee Swim Team. He coaches mainly the Senior Levels during the Spring and Summer seasons at the WSAC, and helps out with meet management. 

Alex attended the Univeristy of Wisconsin- Greeny Bay, where he swam all four years and graduated with degrees in Psychology and Human Development. Alex swam distance free, IM, and backstroke while he swam for the Phoenix. 

He is originally from Wausau, Wisconsin, where he swam with the TIDE Swim Club. He went to East High School where he was part of a record setting team throughout his high school career. Highlighted by a State Championship and All American Honors as a part of the East Boys' 200 Medley Relay.
