News and Notes

Championship season is upon us! Regionals starts tonight and is the last chance for our athletes to qualify for the USA Swimming WI State Championships on Feb 28-Mar 1 and Mar 5-8. Then we have our own hosted Everyone Counts swim meet on Mar 14-15 that is the last chance to qualify for the YMCA State Championships on Mar 20-22. There are lots of events and activities that are being planned for these next few weeks so make sure to stay current with the News and Notes!

Practice Changes: There are currently no practice changes scheduled for the upcoming weeks.

State Meet Participants and State T-shirts: If your swimmer is planning to attend the State meet as an individual qualifier or is potentially a relay swimmer, please use the events section to sign up for the meet. Mark down in the notes section the tshirt size for your swimmer (athletes receive their shirt free of charge). Parents if you would like a shirt please mark down how many and what sizes and we will order them for you. Entries and shirt requests are due on Sunday Night at Midnight.

Everyone Counts: The Job Signups are available and are starting to fill but we still have several open positions. If you aren’t sure what a job entails please reach out to me, Alicia or our Volunteer Coordinator Briana Hagany and see if it’s something you might like to do. We have several jobs that require some training and would love to have some parents learn before our summer meets. Here are a few of the jobs we are looking to get families trained on:

Concessions Coordinator

Assistant Meet Director

Assistant Equipment Manager

Computer Operator

Console Operator

Stroke and Turn Official

Administrative Official

If you have any interest in finding new ways to help our team run these amazing events please reach out to me, Alicia or Briana. We would love to get you connected! Without help in some of these roles it becomes very difficult to run our meets. Thank you in advance for helping out and making a difference!

Service Hours Reminder: Please remember that all families will need to fill their service hours by helping at the Everyone Counts swim meet. If you are unable to fill your requirements at the meet please reach out to me or Alicia about how you can help.

YMCA Day of Giving: Tuesday March 3 is the YMCA of the Fox Cities Day of giving. This is a chance for our members, staff and community to remember the importance and the impact of the gifts given to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. Through donations to the Annual Campaign the YMCA is able to do amazing things to help out members of our community and provide opportunities to those without the resources to participate in YMCA programs on their own. Our team will be participating in this event and there will be more details to come on how we plan to support this wonderful cause.

In the previous News and Notes it was mentioned that our swim team families who are not attending the Regionals Swim Meet on Sunday are encouraged to participate in the Natalie Kate Bolin Birthday Swim and Breakfast. This event is a fundraiser for the NKB Memorial Swim Camp that promotes personal growth, leadership skills, community building and the spread of laughter and love for and with our teammates, family and friends.

On Thursday night at practice I had the opportunity to share with our Developmental and Age Group swimmers a little bit about the impact Natalie had on the people she knew. On February 20, 2010 Natalie passed away in a car accident on the way home from the Boys WIAA State Swim Meet she had attended with her friends. The mark she left on me and nearly everyone who knew her, was a spirit and a joy for life and human connection. She loved bringing people together, she loved helping others and she especially loved experiences that allowed for both of these to happen simultaneously.

The fundraiser will take place at the Oshkosh 20th Ave YMCA. Doors will open at 8:30a on Sunday, Feb 23. The swim will start at 9:00a with breakfast to follow. There is also a blood drive from 9a-1p, if you are interested in participating in the blood drive please contact Stephanie Bolin at

There is no need to RSVP for the swim/breakfast. Just show up and feel the love and joy and the spirit of Natalie. Donations are tax deductible and proceeds go towards funding the NKB Swim Camp. Several FCYST swimmers have attended the camp in the past and any high school age athlete who is interested in attending the camp should reach out and talk to me about who is eligible and how to apply.

If there is one thing to take away from this short plug, it’s that life is fragile and can change in an instant. Those who choose to approach each and every day of their life with a joy for spreading love, laughter, community and connection will change more lives in a short period of time than most people ever do. Please consider coming to the swim and breakfast, parents are welcome to participate. Please consider donating to the camp or donating blood. Wear your purple to show your support. Most of all, treat people with kindness and love.

I Know The Sun Will Rise.
