Coaching Staff
Carl Matson Head, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Sapphire

Coach Carl began competitive swimming at  Riverside University   High School  in  Milwaukee , serving as team co-captain his junior and senior years.  He continued swimming at  Luther   College  for two years before transferring to  Winona   State   University  to pursue an engineering degree.  He is a former WAT parent, coach and Administrative Official, and has run the  Colorado  timing system for WAT and WHS swim meets.  Coach Carl’s responsibilities include providing administrative support and supervision to the coaching staff, and working with small groups and individual swimmers for more focused instruction.   When he’s not on deck or working at 2 Rivers Bicycle he’s planning the next great getaway with his wife and two children.

Andrew Wheeler Silver Coach

Coach Andy swam competitively for a team much like WAT as a young swimmer.  He swam for the Stoughton High School Vikings, where he served as team captain for two years, and then for the Carroll College Pioneers.  He has worked for WI/MN Swim Camps and as a lifeguard.  Coach Andy is thrilled to be back in the swim team atmosphere to share his knowledge and love of the sport with younger swimmers.  Coach Andy is is a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard.  

When Coach Andy is not on deck, he works at White House of Music in Watertown.  He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, camping, and music. 

 

Larissa Tomczak Bronze & Copper Coach

Coach Larissa started competitive swimming at the YMCA at a young age.  She was swim captain her senior year at Madison East High School.  During and after college she was a lifeguard and taught swim lessons.  Coach Larissa was a member of a Master's swim program for the past four years and continued to compete in indoor meets and open water races.  When she is not coaching or swimming, Coach Larissa works full-time providing residential support to people with disabilities.  She enjoys gardening and cooking.  

Adam Loeber Drylands Specialist

Adam is our drylands specialist.  Adam is currently in his last semester at Carroll University, where he will graduate with a double major in Athletic Training and Exercise Science.  He competed as a cross country and track athlete at Carroll and for Watertown High School.  He looks forward to bringing his education and personal experience together to help the WAT swimmers pursue their goals and have fun.  

Adam lives in Watertown with his parents and siblings while he finishes school.  When he is not with WAT, he spends his time studying, working at the Watertown YMCA, and hanging out with friends.  

Alex Nell Sub Coach

Coach Alex swam competitively throughout high school.  He is a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard, and holds all necessary credentials to be a United States Swim Coach.  He is friendly, out-going,and passionate about swimming.  He recently graduated from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is looking forward to starting his new career.  

Rene Wedel Sub Coach

Coach Rene is a former WAT coach who now enjoys being a sub coach for the team.  She started swimming competitively when she was 6 years old and has been involved in swimming as an athlete and a coach ever since. She has been the Head Varsity Coach for the Watertown High School Boys' and Girls' teams in the past. She holds the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard, United States Swim Coach as well as a Wisconsin Teaching Licence.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 young children; they are avid campers.

Madeline Preston Sub Coach

Coach Maddy began swimming with WAT when she was 7 years old and continued through all 4 high school seasons for Watertown. Her senior year, she was captain of the high school team! Coach Maddy graduated from WHS in 2019 and is attending Drake University to study Health Sciences! She is very excited to be a sub for the club that helped her find her passion for swimming!!  She cannot wait to pass along her knowledge and love for the sport to younger swimmers as often as she is able.
