Cutthroat Swimming offers programs for swimmers of all abilities, from learn to swim to high performance competition groups. It is the goal of Cutthroat Swimming to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Learn-to-swim
Requirements

We encourage starting begining swimmers at a young age to develop water safety and confidence early. Learn-to-swim classes are designed to incrementally develop begining swimmers through multiple skill levels. Begining with an introduction to water, safety in and around the pool, basic swimming and survival skills, to learning the basic skills in order to join a competitive swim program.

CCA's Learn-to-Swim program aims to provide your child with a solid foundation of water safety and swimming skills that will last a lifetime and give young swimmers the confidence to enjoy swimming and being in the water.

Like everything learning to swim takes practive, we encourage Learn-to-swim students to attend practice 2 times per week.

  • Swimmers must be 3 years old
  • Potty-trained (we still recommend swim diapers for ages up to 5)
  • Be able to listen and follow directions for at least 35 minutes
  • Wear swim appropriate clothing, and appropriate swimming goggles
  • *Parent-Child classes can be arranged
CCA - Red Group
Requirements

Swimmers in this practice group will be oriented to the world of competitive swimming. Red Group swimmers will be introduced to and receive instruction in the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes, along with an introduction to starts and turns.

The goal of the Red group is to develop each swimmer so that they can complete all four competitive strokes legally in order to compete in USA Swimming sanctioned events and have all the skills to progress through the Junior and Senior Teams. Practices are 60 minutes long and yardage is generally between 500-1,5000 yards.

Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice 4 times per week and swim in local meets (Cheyenne or Laramie). We understand that some swimmers are looking to further develop their swimming skills and not necessarily be looking to compete, and this is not just ok, it is encouraged, we want all of our swimmers to develop into strong swimmers with a high level of confidence in and out of the water.

 

  • Be USA Swimming Registered
  • Swimmers must be at least 6 years old to enter this group *
  • Be able to swim freestyle with rhythmic breathing as well as backstroke for 50 yards
  • Wear proper swimming attire, a swim cap and goggles

 

CCA - Silver Group
Requirements

Swimmers in this practice group will already have some competitive experince and continue to develop their technical skills, endurance and competitive abilities. Silver group swimmers will be introduced to longer ditances, sets of varying intensity; aerobic, anarobic, lactate and test sets, designed to introduce swimmer to the concepts of competitive training 

The goal of the Silver group is to develop each swimmer so that they can complete all four competitive strokes legally in order to compete in USA Swimming sanctioned events and qualify for the Wyoming state championships, as well as to have all the skills to progress through the Junior and Senior Teams.

Practices are 90 minutes long and yardage is generally between 1,800 -3,200 yards.

Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice 4 times per week and swim in local and travel meets (WY, CO, and any additional meet determined by coaches).

While the silver group is the first group that starts to groom swimmers for a long swimming career, as with the Red group, we understand that some swimmers are looking to further develop their swimming skills and not necessarily be looking to compete, and this is not just ok, it is encouraged, we want all of our swimmers to develop into strong swimmers with a high level of confidence in and out of the water.

  • Wear proper swimming attire, a swim cap and goggles
  • Swimmers must be at least 8 years old to enter this group *
  • Be able to swim 500 yards continuously
  • Be able to swim 3 out of the 4 strokes with correct technique

 

CCA - Junior Team
Requirments

The Cutthroat Junior Team places more emphasis upon race conditioning, and stresses individual development and improvement of the four competitive strokes, as well as starts and turns, and relay swimming. The Junior team is composed of two groups loosely broken up by age and ability. Starting with a group designed for 11 – 12 year old’s, and a second group for 13 year old’s (Jnr High athletes).

Junior Team practices include 2,200 to 4,500 yards per session, and an introduction to dryland training including stretching, and body-weight calisthenics. The goal of this group is to improve the swimmers competitive results and achieve Wyoming State qualifying standards and aim to make state age group finals, and Zones times.

Junior Team members are encouraged to attend a minimum of three practices per week (four would be recommended as well as the occasional Friday practice) and are encouraged to compete in two swim meets/month.

  • Swimmers must be at least 11 years old to enter this group *
  • Be competent at all four swimming strokes, turns and starts for 100 yards
  • Be able to swim 1,000 yards continuously without stopping
  • Optional own kickboard, fins, pull bouy, Paddles, gear bag, racing goggles
  • We also encourage team gear such as CCA swim caps/shirts/sweats for meets
CCA - Senior Team
Requirements

The CCA Senior team is for our advanced swimmers aiming to succeed at a state and sectional, and national level. The Senior team works on advanced technique and racing skills, as well as a high level conditioning program.

Senior Team practices follow a program built around the racing season to maximize the athletes performance. Practices vary in length from 4,500 to 7,000 yards, and include dryland conditioning with and without weights.

Senior Team members are encouraged to attend a minimum of three practices per week, four is recommended as well as the occasional Friday practice (these can be couples with Junior-High, and High-School swimming practices as required). Senior Team members and are encouraged to compete in one swim meet/month, and encouraged to participate in out of state meets, sectional and national meets.

  • Athletes must be at least 13 years old to enter this group *
  • Be capable of swimming long distances in each of the four strokes, with correct technique and at varying intensities
  • Preferred own kickboard, fins, pull bouy, Paddles, gear bag, racing goggles
  • We also encourage team gear such as CCA swim caps/shirts/sweats for meets

 

* - Ages used in requirments are used in an attempt to keep athletes of a similar age in a group with their peers. Age will not be used as a sole or limiting factor in a coaches decision to move an athlete up or down within the groups.
