Hi everyone,

48 years ago, the 1972 Olympic games was "one for the ages". Aside from the terrorism that happened, the sports were sensational, and the venues were spectacular. The Olympic Park, with the Track & Field/Soccer stadium, Basketball/Volleyball arena, Swimming pool, Gymnastics arena, etc, are still there, and are still very nice and a great  I visited there in 1989 and again in 2017. Beautiful park.

Today I found 3 women's events: 100 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast. Things to look at:

- SWIM SUITS: look like today's "grandmas" suit.

- no Goggles

- half of the girls swimming without a cap!!!!!

- Starts: flat getting into the water

- Starting to swim BEFORE the flag after turns!!!

- Breaststroke: heads out of the water (looking forward)

- Backstroke turns: needed to touch the wall on their back before initiating the turn.

- 100 Free: the winner (Sandra Neilson - lane 3) had a very strong kick, but the second and third did not. They  (Shirley Babashoff in lane 4, and Shane Gould in lane 5) were more of a middle distance/distance swimmers. At those years there were quite a few swimmers who could swim from 100 to 800/1500. Specialization of events came a little later.

There you go. I hope you enjoy.

Have a great day.
