 John Janszen - Swim Team Director/Head Coach
The YMCA of Northwest Louisiana welcomed John Janszen as Head Coach in the Fall of 2017. Under John's leadership the program has seen steady progression at all levels. YNWL has regularly set program bests for Local, State, Regional, and National qualifiers while developing opportunities for swimmers of all levels and abilities. In 2019 YNWL hosted the first ever Sanction YMCA Swim Meets in the state of Louisiana. In April 2019 four swimmers from YNWL became the first ever from Louisiana to compete at the YMCA National Swimming Championships. 

John brings years of coaching experience to Shreveport, Louisiana from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he most recently held the position of Assistant Director of Competitive Aquatics at Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA (PCY). His successes at PCY include the Men’s Team Champions at the 2017 Long Course YMCA Nationals. While at PCY, John worked primarily with swimmers age 11 and older. He also handled championship meet preparation for all senior athletes. John brings a wealth of administrative experience to YNWL and our Aquatics Program, having served as the Lead Team Administrator at PCY and as an Executive Committee Member, Webmaster, and Records Chair for the Southwest Ohio YMCA Swim League. Additionally, John serves as Assistant Meet Director for YMCA Masters Nationals and is a Louisiana Swimming Board Member & Safe Sport Coordinator.

Prior to coaching at PCY, John was Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming at the M.E. Lyons YMCA, after serving as Swim Team Director at the Coffman Family YMCA in Springboro, OH. At Coffman, he succeeded in achieving record growth of the team size, Y National Qualifiers and National Finalists. John spent five and half years coaching in the college ranks at Miami University and Xavier University. At the collegiate level, he oversaw athletes who became All-Conference, NCAA Qualifiers, & US Olympic Trial Qualifiers, managed recruiting and strength and conditioning. A swimmer himself, John enjoyed four years of swimming for Xavier University. He was a four-time Scholar Athlete Award winner and school record holder.  John graduated in 2004 with a degree in Sport Management and earned a Masters of Education in Sport Administration in 2008. John is an ASCA Level 4 Age Group / Level 5 YMCA certified coach. John and his wife Amanda reside in Bossier City.


Tyler Lloyd - Assistant Swim Team Director - Lead Level I/II, Pre-Competitive
Tyler began as full-time Assistant Swim Team Director in August of 2018. Tyler leads our Level I & II Groups as well as the Pre-Competitive program. In addition to coaching, Tyler is the head of the YMCA's Swim For Life program, offering swim lessons to hundreds of local school aged children.

Tyler came to YNWL from Tyler, TX where he competed at many levels of the sport. Growing up he swam summer league, middle school, high school and club swimming. He was a lifeguard and swim instructor for 4 years, also teaching swim lessons to a local preschool.  After high school he served a 2 year mission in Ireland for his church. When he returned he attended Tyler Junior College and earned an associate degree in business management. He coached at the Tyler YMCA for 2 years during that time. His hobbies include rugby, triathlons, soccer and disc golf. Tyler has two children, Rhett and Rowan.


Maribeth Hatcher - Assistant Coach - BHP Y - Lead Levels III/IV. Asst Levels V/VI
YNWL welcomed Maribeth in 2018 to lead our Level III/IV groups after a 3yr stint coaching overseas. For 3 years Maribeth was the Head Coach on base in Aviano, Italy as part of the European Armed Forces Swim League. Previously a swimmer herself in the states, Maribeth still enjoys swimming a bit as well as yoga and softball (playing/coaching).
Maribeth has 3 children.


Lujien (Luji) Sallam - Assistant Coach - BHP Y - Asst Levels III/IV
Lujien joins YNWL and will be working primarily with Level III swimmers. Luji was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. She started competitive swimming at an early age. At the age of 13 years, she was recognized as the best swimmer of her age group in Egypt. She competed in multiple National, African, and International Championships with the Egyptian National Swimming Team as well as her club team (Al Ahly Sporting Club). After retiring, she coached young swimmers aged 11-16 years old and worked as an assistant coach for the senior team.

Lujien also played volleyball alongside her swimming career, she was ranked amongst the top 10 setters in the U20 World Championship in 2013. In 2014, she was offered a scholarship to play college volleyball in Texas and pursue her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Computer Information systems. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science.


Wendy Enderle - Assistant Coach - BHP Y - Asst All Levels
Wendy joins YNWL as an assistant working with all levels. Although new to the team, Wendy is not new to BHP YMCA or swimming. Wendy returns to the Shreveport-Bossier City area after retiring from 21 years active duty service in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. Wendy was stationed at Barksdale AFB from 2015-2018 on Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command staff. Wendy is a certified U.S. Masters Swimming Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor and taught that course at BHP YMCA in 2017-2018 as well as individual swim lessons for ages 5 to 85+.

Originally from Port Angeles, Washington, Wendy was an age group record holder for the Port Angeles Swim Club and state champion. Wendy went on to compete for four years at the Division 1 level for Washington State University as a scholarship athlete where she was a varsity letter winner, PAC-10 All-Academic, and Top-10 time holder in the 100 & 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and sprint freestyle events.

Wendy earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from WSU and a Master of Arts in Management from American Military University. After earning her commission through Air Force ROTC, Wendy took a break from swimming, but started competing again after joining the Red River Masters in 2017. She competed at the 2018 YMCA Masters Championships and the 2018 U.S. Masters National Championships in Indianapolis where she earned all Top 5 finishes and ended the 2018 season with six Top 10 times in her age group.

Wendy lives in Bossier City and is thrilled to be back in the water training and coaching in her “home” pool.


Ian Gonzales - Assistant Coach - BHP Y - Asst Levels I/II, & Pre-Competitive


Mandy Smith - Lead Site Coach - Southside Swim Club - Lead Level I and Asst Levels Pre-I/II/III
Mandy joined the YNWL staff in the fall of 2019 and works with the Pre-Level 1, Level I & II swimmers. Mandy grew up swimming competitively and teaching swim lessons in the summers. She went on to swim collegiately at the University of Arkansas, serving as Team Captain her Jr. and Sr. years. She graduated with a degree in Dietetics and is a Registered Dietitian. 

After a break from swimming, Mandy re-entered the swimming family as her 2 children began to swim. She began coaching for the City of Shreveport Swim Team in 2018 helping coach the 10-U’s.

 Mandy comes from a family deep rooted in swimming. Her grandfather started competitive swimming in Shreveport in 1949, built Southside Swim Club in Shreveport and founded the City of Shreveport Swim Team (COSST). Mandy’s father, Butch swam for Southern Arkansas University, then took over COSST as head coach in 1975.  He has also been the head coach of Centenary Men’s and Women’s Swim team since its inception in 2001. Her bother, Ty, swam for Ouachita Baptist University.  Both her father and grandfather have been prominent in Louisiana swimming for decades. 


Outside of swimming, Mandy owns her own business and she enjoys, running, yoga (200hr RYT), podcasts, amusement parks and is a total homebody. Mandy and her husband, Justin, have 2 kids, Ruby Belle and Beckett who both swim for the YNWL.



Linda Pope - Assistant Coach - Southside Swim Club - Lead Level Pre-I & II, Asst Level I, III
Linda has an extensive background in stroke instruction and young swimmer development. Her love of competitive swimming began at the Lake Charles YMCA where she competed through High School. During her college years she helped coach the 10-u’s for LCY. She was WSI certified and has taught infant, age group and adult swim lessons. After graduating with a BS in Chemical Engineering, she and her husband, Bart, moved to Shreveport where she worked as a Process Engineer for International Paper in Mansfield until they began their family. Linda re-entered the swimming community in 2000 when her children were ready to participate on swim team. She began coaching for the City of Shreveport Swim Team in 2003 and has coached 10-U’s almost continuously for over 16 years. Linda has also coached summer league for Town South Swim Team since 2004  and was Magnet High’s Swim coach for 6 years.

In addition to age group coaching, Linda is a certified US Masters Coach and a certified Adult Learn to Swim Instructor for the YMCA of NWLA. She helped develop the Y’s Couch to 500 program and co-instructed it. She still enjoys competitive swimming herself and has competed in meets hosted by the Y Masters Team.

Linda’s other interests include singing in the choir and leading Bible Study at her church, running, reading and watching Hallmark movies.


Billy Cloutet - Assistant Coach - Southside Swim Club - Lead Level III, Asst Level Pre-I, Levels I/II
Billy joined the YNWL staff in the Fall of 2019 and works with our Level I & II swimmers. Billy began coaching as a student coach at the Univ of Louisiana-Monroe in 2003. From there he spent time as a volunteer coach with Indian Aquatic Club in Monroe 2001-2003, Asst with the Monroe Special Olympics 2001-2003, Head Coach of the North Shreveport Swim Team 2008-2011, and most recently the Head Coach of Terri's Swim Academy 2016-Present. 

Billy comes from a family of swimmers. Sister Cassie swam for Centenary College, brother Chris swam for LSU, and Billy swam for the Univ of Louisiana-Monroe. Billy and his siblings grew up spending time on Lake Ponchatrain where his grandparents lived, spending plenty of time on and in the water!


Terry Wright - Strength and Conditioning Coach - BHP Y - Level V, VI
Terry currently helps run our Level V/VI off-season dryland programs as well as in-season Level V. Additionally, Terry runs the "Ultimate Goal" program at the Y as well as other youth and Adult Fitness programs. His background also includes YOGA, CrossFit (swimmers will NOT be doing CF), and GoRuck (weighted body motion under stress). Terry himself underwent a lifestyle and body transformation, having lost 120lbs and has kept it off by leading a better and healthier lifestyle.

Terry is married with two beautiful daughters.
