Welcome to the 2022-23 RANY Sharks swim season!  My Name is Matt Garifo and I am the Director of Competitive Swimming.  I don’t want to spend too much time talking, but I do have some important information that I need to share with you.

What we are about

First and foremost, we are about helping your children become the best versions of themselves, both in and out of the water.  We want them to be happy, successful, and rewarded for their hard work.  We are about making sure every single child that comes through our program feels like they are seen, heard, and valued as a person and an athlete.  Everyone matters.

We are a year-round YMCA and USA Swimming affiliated club team.  Most of our meets will take place in the YMCA league, however we will attend some meets throughout the year that are USA Swimming sanctioned, especially in the Spring and Summer.  Our Championship season will follow the YMCA Schedule.

  Office Hours

    Monday: 10:30am-5:30pm

    Tuesday: 1:00pm-5:30pm

    Thursday: 10:30am-5:30pm

I work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays, so I will be able to communicate via email.  I do not arrive to the Y until 4:00pm when practices begin.

The easiest way to get in touch with me is to email [email protected].  I am more than happy to have a phone conversation, but because I’m not always at my desk, it’s best if you shoot me an email and we can set up a time to chat over the phone, or in person.

 Y Membership

For all our new members, if you haven’t already done so, please stop by the welcome center to get your access card and picture taken for your YMCA Membership ID.  All athletes and parents must scan their membership card before entering the building.

Billing

Program Fees:  All program tuition payments are done through the YMCA and the Randolph YMCA Website.

Meet Fees and Events:  Meet fees will be handled through our Team’s Website and Team Unify.  All accounts need to have a credit card on file.  This will be used when our team attend invitationals that charge an entry fee and athlete surcharge to participate.  Families will be billed on the first of every month for any fees incurred for meets in the previous month. Example:  On November 1st, an invoice and auto pay will go out to all families who attended an invitational in the month of October.  The same process will be done for any out of water social events that we have planned for the season as well such as team parties, bowling night, etc.

USA Swimming Registration

As stated before, our swimmers will be participating in USA Swimming meets throughout the year, and in order to do so, they will need to be registered with USA Swimming.  This year, USA Swimming as changed their registration policy.  It used to be that the team would register all athletes.  Going forward, USA Swimming is requiring that all families register themselves.

Website/OnDeck

Our Website is the primary source for all information you’ll need.  Schedules, Meet Entries, Billing, and Email communications are all done through our team website.  Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the website, and do not be afraid to reach out to me if you have any questions on how to access certain features.

  Login usernames and password

For security purposes, Team Unify only allows one login username per account.  There was no formula for choosing your username.  I either took the first email address written down on the athlete information form, or used the only address I could read legibly.  By now, you should have all received login instructions to create your password.  If you ever forget your password, please email me at [email protected] and I will send and password reset to the email used to login.

Once you’re logged in, you can then go to your account, and add Alternate email addresses.  This is important because it will allow more than one family member to receive email communications throughout the season. You can add up to two additional email addresses to the account.

OnDeck App

On Deck is an app that connects to our team’s website.  It allows you to have all the same capabilities as the desktop website, such as declaring for meets and selecting entries.  It also is an important communication tool.  OnDeck allows us to send push notifications for information that needs to be distributed immediately, such as emergency closures, practice schedule and meet schedule changes.  Please download the app and be sure to turn your push notifications on in order to receive these notifications.

Email/Communications

Shark News

Each week, I will send out a newsletter labeled “Shark News” to all emails attached to your account.  If you wish to receive the newsletter, please add additional emails to your family’s account.  This will have details on upcoming meets, important changes and reminders, or just to shout out the success of our swimmers! The newsletters can be lengthy at times, but I can assure you that all the information is important! If you feel like I didn’t answer some of your questions in the email, please feel free to reach out.

 Social Media

We are all over Social Media.  If you haven’t already done so, you can join our Facebook Group, “RANY Sharks”.  This group is another means of distributing information, connecting with families, parent-to-parent questions, and of course, celebrating our swimmers! We also have an Instagram account, rany_swim.  This is used to share pictures of our team and celebrate our swimmers accomplishments!

Practices

  Attendance

We encourage our swimmers to come as much as possible.  We understand that there are other activities that the swimmers are doing, so there are no requirements that a swimmer must attend a certain number of practices.

Viewing Practices

All practices will be open for viewing except on days if/when your child practices at CCM.  When we are at the Y, you may watch practice from the bleachers located around the pool area.  During this time, it is important that you hold any questions you may have for the coaches until after practice. We are devoted to using all of our practice time to work with the swimmers.
