Coach Ashley 


After graduating from Wagner College with a dual Master’s degree in Childhood Education and Special Education in 2009, Fahey help found a new YMCA program in Old Bridge, NJ. Since then, she has gone on to work for the Westfield YMCA, Red Bank YMCA and currently is on staff with the YMCA of Greater of Monmouth County. She has also served as the Program Assistant for the men’s swim program at Wagner College, a Division I college located in Staten Island, NY.

Coach Ashley swam competitively for Ithaca College and still enjoys swimming in her spare time. She also enjoys reading and spending time with her husband, Brendan and daughter, Maisy.     


Brian Retterer Assistant Coach

Brian has been involved in competitive swimming for over 40 years. Brian has been on the GMNY coaching staff since 2009. He has coached previously at Middletown Swim Club, Curl-Burke swim club in Washington DC, as well as Stanford University men’s swim team.

Brian is a graduate of Stanford University and earned a LSSBB advanced degree from Villanova.   He has been inducted into multiple Hall of Fames included Stanford, City of Sparks, and the Reno Aquatic Club Hall of Fame. Some of Brian’s accomplishments include being a 15 time NCAA champion, 25 time NCAA All-American, 12 time American Record holder, and 10 year USA National team member. Brian was a 13 time Pac-12 Conference champion, and a Pac-12 Athlete of the Year. Brian was voted one of the top 5 athletes ever for the state of Nevada. He won a Gold medal at the 1994 World Championships and Silver medals at the 1993 Pan Pacific and 1997 World Championships. He was ranked top 8 in the world 5 consecutive years, and was the first person ever to break 46 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke. At one point in time in his swim career, Brian held the top 6 times ever in the 100 yard Back, 8 of the top 10, as well as the top 2 times for the 200 yard Back. For nearly 10 years Brian held the fastest 50 yard free relay split ever recorded. Brian held numerous National Age Group and Pacific Swimming records, and still holds the Nevada High School state record in the 100 yard back, set over 30 years ago.

He enjoys long walks with his wife, Lynn, along with NJ coastline and visiting his children in Los Angeles where both attend the University of Southern California, (USC) where Paul is on the swim team and Lucy is a member of the Trojan Marching Band.

Dana Schweizer Assistant Coach

Coach Dana started competitive swimming when she was 6 and swam for a Pennsylvania USA swim team called Spirit, while also being a member of a local summer club team where she not only swam, but was a lifeguard, and taught swim lessons until the pool unfortunately closed. 

Dana graduated from Widener University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and minor in Professional Writing. After graduation she coached basketball until relocating to New Jersey in 2017. Dana has a passion for giving back to her community and enjoys doing so through the unique culture her career at Cisco Systems Inc. has allowed her to do. 

In 2020 Dana was featured in People Magazine's September issue for her courageous outreach during the pandemic to help pack and distribute meals to those in need locally at the Freehold Borough YMCA.

David Lo Assistant Coach

Coach David Lo 

Since age group 11-12, David’s been involved in the competitive swimming world.  His high school junior and senior years would see YMCA Nationals and then land him with a Division 1 swim scholarship to Saint Peter’s University.  After graduating with a Math degree, David pursued a career in Finance with Equitable.  Through the years, he remained connected to swimming by Life guarding for IBSP, volunteering for the Special Olympics, officiating for the YMCA and recently becoming a coach for Greater Monmouth Y.  Outside of swimming, family comes first and David is devoted to his wife, Nina and 2 children, Davina and Lucas.  If there’s any time left, David enjoys a good comedy, trail biking and playing tennis.  We’re all in this pool together!

Donna holds a B.S. from Montclair State University in Health and Physical Education and a Masters in Health Education from New Jersey City University.   While attending Montclair she was the Head Lifeguard and taught swim lessons with Montclair’s Head Swim Team coach, Brian McLoughlin.  After graduation, she worked for Berkeley Acquatic and coached and taught at Bridgewater-Raritan High School for 15 years.  She currently teaches at Freehold Township High School where she is the assistant Swim Team Coach.  She began coaching for Red Bank’s summer team, The Summer Rockets, in 2018.  Donna lives in Howell with her husband, John, and 3 children, two daughters Samantha and Bryce (13 and 10) and son, Johnny (6).

Tyler is a graduate from Monmouth University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Tyler joined the program 10 years ago and got to be apart of Camp Zehnder's inaugural year. 

Tyler swam competitively for Monmouth, earning, The Leadership Award his senior year. Tyler still enjoys to swim but has moved into running and has completed two full marathons.

Mike was a 4yr collegiate swimmer @  Brown University, and graduated  with a Bachelor of Art degree in public health. Prior to college he swam at Mercersburg Academy where he captained the Nationally ranked team his senior year. He is currently a physician, and serves as the Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes @ the Unterberg Children’s Hospital.  He started both his age group swimming & coaching career  at the Red Bank YMCA. He also currently serves  as a coach for the United States Lifesaving National Team. Mike still competes in open water surf lifesaving competitions , and enjoys pool swimming  in his  spare time. He has three daughters who are following in his footsteps as current swim team members of the YMCA of  Greater Monmouth County .

Kelsey Ballard Asst Coach

Kelsey recently earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The College of New Jersey, where she was also a member of the women’s swim team. She was a member of the GMNY swim team from 2011-2017 and is excited to return as a coach. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys theater, open-water swimming, and baking.
