The Westerly-Pawcatuck YMCA Swim Team Scholarship

Application Form


  1. The applicant must be a member of the Ocean Community YMCA Swim Team for at least two consecutive years, including his/her senior year.

  2. The applicant must be a graduating senior, planning to continue higher education in an accredited school/program, or joining a branch of the military of the United States of America.

  3. The applicant must be an active member of the Ocean Community YMCA swim team.  The applicant must also be a positive role model for others by living the core values of the YMCA.  Ways to achieve these are as follows:

    1. Consistently attending practices.
    2. Mentor younger swimmers on the team.
    3. Respect the coaching staff.
    4. Assist the coaches with practice.
  4. The applicant must have participated in at least 50% of the team’s YMCA sponsored swim meets during the year.

  5. The applicant must have participated in the swim-a-thon during each qualifying year.

The Application Process:

  1. Applications for the Dolphin Team Scholarship are on the team website, under ‘Scholarships’.  The application should be completed and submitted to Eric Belanger Boosters Club/Chair, Scholarship Committee, no later than March 3rd, 2019 by 7PM.

  2. Along with the application, the applicant must submit a brief essay describing what the swim team experience has meant to him/her and how it has helped them appreciate the YMCA’s core values.

  3. Please include a personal reference. The reference should be obtained from a teacher, mentor, or adult who knows you well. The reference must not come from a family member or a member of the Dolphin’s coaching staff.

  4. Please submit application and essay to Eric Belanger via email @ [email protected] . Please be sure to include Westerly Dolphin Scholarship in the subject line or the email may not be received.  Also late submittals will not be accepted!


NOTE:  The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to waive the conditions of eligibility, under exceptional, extenuating circumstances such as illness or injury, or family emergencies that prevent the applicant from meeting the application criteria.  The applicant may, in such a case, apply for a scholarship with an explanation as to why they were unable to meet the criteria.  The Scholarship Committee shall have the sole responsibility for reviewing all applications, and making the recommendations to the Dolphins Boosters Club regarding scholarship awards.  Anyone who does not complete the entire process is ineligible to receive a scholarship.
