COMPETITIVE YOUTH TEAMS

Our sport is governed by the Rules of United States of America Artistic Swimming (USAAS) and its international governing body, Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA).

Coaches decide which squad each athlete is placed in. Many factors go into this decision including skills of the athlete, where they will do best and have appropriate growth and challenges.

Novice

This is the beginning level that offers training for swimmers of all ages (up to 20) and abilities. Athletes get their first experience with competition at this level.  Novice has the fewest practice hours but still offers skill development with age-specific training for all athletes. It is geared toward challenging and developing each individual to the best of their abilities. Most new members to the sport begin at the Novice level at practice and competitions before joining a higher level team. This team competes only in the local area and has 1-4 competitions during the season. This group is a step above our Mermaid and Aquamen program.

Practices:

  • Tuesdays: 5:30pm-7:30pm
  • Saturdays: 12:30pm-2:30pm

Novice swimmers compete with Figures & Free Routines:

  • Four figures, sets of defined body positions and the movement (transitions) between those body positions
  • Free routines are set to music and are choreographed at the discretion of the coach
  • Athletes are usually in their first-third year of the sport depending upon age and other factors
  • Smaller age groupings in competition - usually local competition only
