Triple Crown

The Triple Crown of swimming is known to very few people. There is no crown given to the finishers, rather the pride of accomplishing a feat that only 49 other people have ever accomplished.

My goal, with significant pool and cold open water acclimation training, cooperation of mother nature and other powers, I will swim all three swims in 34 days besting Rendy Opdyke's 35 day completion. [No wetsuits are allowed]

Membership requires the authenticated completion of three famous marathon swims:

  • 21 miles (33.7K) across the English Channel between England and France
  • 21 miles (33.7K) across the Catalina Channel in Southern California, USA
  • 28.5 miles (45.8K) around the Manhattan Island in New York, USA.

Other Notable Triple Crown Finishers:

  • Dave Barra (USA) completed his Triple Crown in less than 3 months
  • Alan Voisard completed his Triple Crown just over 3 months.
  • Samantha Simon completed her in 11+ months is the youngest (as a 20-year-old) member of the elite club.
  • Dr. Richards completed his swims in 12 months and 16 days while the rest of the Triple Crowners completed their feat over the course of years.
  • Jim Barber took 22 years to join the club.
  • Jason Zirganos of Greece swam the English Channel and Catalina Channel in the 1950's under authenticated circumstances and is reportedly to have swum around Manhattan Island, but this last swim was not authenticated by NYC Swim.
