Al Anderson's Source for Sports Long Course Winter Classic - Meet Preview Report

Jennifer Robinson

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club is set to host the 2023 Al Anderson’s Source for Sports Winter Classic swim meet – February 3 – 5, 2023 – Shaw Centre, Saskatoon, SK.  There will be 13 swim clubs competing in this Long Course event.  This meet’s format will be three (3) sessions of timed finals.  The Goldfins Swim Club will be represented by 143 swimmers competing in 906 individual events and in 15 relay events.

“The Goldfins are proud to once again hosting one of Saskatchewan's only three-day invitational swim meets, thanks to our title sponsor Al Anderson's Source for Sports.  The Saskatoon Goldfins will play host to over 350 swimmers from across Saskatchewan and Northern Manitoba.”  Head Coach Steven Hitchings said. “The Shaw Center is a world class facility, featuring an Olympic sized 10 lane pool.  The Al Anderson's Winter Classic, is one of the only swim meets where swimmers can qualify for national swim meets at a local competition.”

Hitchings continued expressing his excitement about the upcoming weekend.  “I am proud to say that 143 of the swimmers competing this weekend will be Goldfins swimmers!  Goldfins swimmers range from those taking part in their first sanctioned swim meet, to swimmers trying to qualify for Jr. Provincials, or Manitoba/Saskatchewan Provincial Champions.  Senior members of the Team will be attempting to qualify for Western Canadian Championships and Canadian Swimming Trials (Sr. Nationals).  This wide spectrum of swimmers will ensure there is always action in the pool and always a race to cheer for.”

This will be the Saskatoon Goldfins second meet of the 2022 – 2023 that they are hosting this season.

“Thank you to all of our volunteer parents for taking officiating courses and for signing up to make this swim meet a reality!”
